Twisting Corridor

So today I tried TC on my 195 Vengeance DH. Was breezing through collecting Phantasma, and powers. Then I got to floor 13, I kept hearing and reading over and over how 13+ was near impossible to pass for some classes. But after a healer in my raid said she flew through layer 1 and 2 with no problems I though maybe it had been a nerf or maybe even hotfixed.

NOPE!

I hit 13 and was getting 2 shot by non elites. I had 55 powers (mostly healing and CD). I died 3 times trying to just skip mobs and try the next floor, once past I got to floor 17 boss and died my last two times. Id say as a tank, things hit alot harder then anything most tanks can tank, also takes sooo long to kill mobs cause I know for tanks the HP pool on mobs was increased. With the current build of TC for Veng DH (all I play on horde and ally) looks like ill never progress solo. Which this is supposed to be aimed towards (not having to have a group)

I’ve tried this a few times as DPS and tank, gotten and beaten up to level 5. (Feral / Guardian specs).

Overall, I found that success is highly dependent on getting enough HP increase powers; getting an early mawrats killed = +health power is enough to give you a fighting chance later, and extra +15% health bonuses further assist.

Unfortunately, as DPS, and even to a lesser extent as tank, if you don’t get these layers 13+ feel pretty bad, with enemies two-shotting you as soon as they see you.

I do appreciate that I’ve found a few unusual combos that made my DPS significantly higher than I’d anticipated it being, but the sheer amount of damage enemies do (one of the bosses on floor 18 layer 5 was hitting my bear for 70k with 70% reduction from armor and another 35% from versatility, and another 20% from barkskin) is, while not too much to handle for a lucky build, too punishing for a system where there is no guarantee you will get enough HP to survive.

If runs only took ~20-30 minutes, that would be easier to swallow; just try again, learn how the powers combine, and savor the runs that go well. Because they take 1-2 hours (at least, if I’m clearing as much as possible for potential powers), a failed run can be extremely disheartening.

I did this today. And I don’t get it.

I completed L18 as Ba!ance Druid 192 lLvl. The final boss had 3M HP and took two attempts.

Why is this thing 18 floors? It took ages way too long for a single piece of content. I wasn’t sure if I could exit and return where I was or would go back to the beginning?

Is it 18 floors every week?

It is bizarre.

The reason for the length and difficulty is because it is a challenge meant to be a challenge with only cosmetic type items in it.

It is also supposed to be balanced such that, unless you have done mythic raids, you are not supposed to be able to get all of the rewards so far. If difficulty does not change with the next patch, then you will be able to do it before the end of the expac.

I soloed layer 3 of Twisting Corridor the other day as vengeance. It was definitely pretty tough in a few places. The difficulty ramp up is not smooth either.

I got pretty decent powers though. Some of the crappier powers in the other wings end up being pretty good when you can get a couple stacks of them.

I did Twisting Corridor today with a 4 man group. We barely got to floor 18. The last boss is tweeked way too hard. Floors 10 and up also need to be tweeked to a lower HP pool. Spending 2 hours in a dungeon was more than enough, and at the end we wipe very quickly. We were using Interrups also. This needs to be fixed.

Why do people still get layers and floors confused?

A layer in TC has 18 floors.

A floor is not a layer. There is no layer 18 for any torghast wing.

I wonder how many ppl die to mechanics they don’t understand (eg, movement based enrage) and say it’s overtuned.

Yeah health is super important for better or worse for it is a cushion at the higher floors. Unfortunately so important I had more than once not chosen better powers just for the health upgrades.

I recommend this strat.

Well I meant Level 18.

Which you prob still have issue with.

Sorry nomenclature police.

Unfortunately, if you get bad rolls on anima powers, it can quickly become impossible. I did Layer 6 and got nothing but “75 phantasma” and “Non-elites have a chance to turn into furniture”. Very little that would help with the end boss. Tried it again and got a decent set of powers that meshed well together. The end boss was still challenging, but I pulled it out by the skin of my teeth.

Currently sitting here staring at the end boss of Layer 7 after getting the worst possible anima powers. Lots of “3% Versatility” and “Attacking a New Creature heals you” powers. I have 105k health and the boss spam casts a nuke for 90k if I’m at rang (Hunter) and melee hits me for 160k if I stay in melee range. He one shots my pet as an opener.

yeah, i do think a lot of people are just making bad choices… but there are absolutely runs like this where you just never get offered things that will really help you. i suspect that’s less likely in TC since you have more opportunities to get powers.

While I can understand a completion for Transmog and etc, as a challenge. Putting a mount at the end, to help you get through one of the main designated end game zones seems like making this impossible to get stupid.

auto attacks from Tower Sentinals (2 Shot) is not a mechanic.

Figure out the build that works. It’s not about number of powers, it’s how the powers interact. You will need a main dps multiplier, a good number of raw hp increases, and reliable defensive powers. In fact, most of the powers end up being defensive, with a select few powering up my main dps cd. Picking powers without a plan in mind and then crying about how you got one shot its really helpful

This is 100% correct.

I have done the corridors twice now. Once in guardian and once as feral.

I tried it first as guardian as it is safer. I did not get any good powers and what I did get was spread all over the place. The only reason I completed it was I got the 10% health damage power. I went from less than 5k dps to over 10k from that one power. The last boss took forever and I was getting close to melee attacks killing me.

The next try as feral went much better and for reasons I would normally think of as bad. Entry power, secret spices. Needless to say, before I hit the halfway point, I already had the 100% increased life. I also got multiple 15% life oblerons. 105% life by the end. What made me almost unkillable though was that I also got the power that is “highly likely to heal you for 5% of your life”. Only, I got it 3 times so it was often healing me for 15% of my life. Add in a lot of DoT, stealth, and at the end the slime that removes armor, and I was hitting with ferocious bites for 160k. Oh, and I also had over 80% crit.

So, in that case, a very powerfully interacting combo of powers that let me kill the last boss in less than a minute. 60k dps is nothing to complain about.

That is the point of a rogue lite. I normally hate them, but an important point here is that as you get higher ilevels, it gets easier. This means you are not 100% at the mercy of RNG. That is what I hate about a lot of rogue lites. So, if you cannot get the cosmetic you want now, you can get it later as your ilevel increases.

Two high-health elites frequently casting an interruptible spell that one-shots a tank with 108K health through both mitigation anima powers and tank CDs is overtuned.

I got single ones on floor 16 and those were killable once I figured out which spell was the insta-kill, but the two-pull on floor 17 was simply impossible to solo. They had a ton of health and once all my interrupts were on CD they simply one-shot me. I got hard blocked and lost 2 hours. Did not feel good.

Feral is probably top 2-3 I’ve seen so far as far as damage potential with the right build.

Also, there is an anima power that makes it so you can’t lose more than 25% of your life with a single hit (but I’ve only seen it once).

You’re right- everyone should be able to both quickly and easily get the mount (which is quality of life only) that completely negates what makes the maw what it is.
