Twilight Devastation vs. Echoing Void

Post nerf, does anyone happen to know the damage differential the former has over the latter when you take into account how often they proc in an encounter?

TDev is ahead on tanks and whatnot, but you have to deal with it constantly missing so it is what it is.

No clue, I’ve got 8x void ritual pieces and 2 with avoidance. Never seen either of those.

But how ahead is it? If it’s not too huge a gap, I want to know if I won’t suffer for concentrating on EV for consistency.

Mind, I only have 1 TD piece currently.

Get 2 pieces, and if your health pool is big enough it smashes.

Depends on your tier. Bloodmallet isn’t the most accurate thing in the world so I would sim them yourself with raidbots.

Again though TDev is way more inconsistent since it could proc when you go to taunt a mob in the middle of nowhere and then shoot out and miss the pack of 6 on top of you.

11,000 is a big gap; damn

From my experience on VDH and Prot Pally TD does way better. Yes the aim on it is awkward but honestly in the grand scheme of things true misses are not that common. EV has its own set of awkward RNG such as stacking too high and proccing when the pack is already almost dead is a big one I’ve dealt with. Pally also seems to proc both of them noticably faster than VDH.

Though since EV has a lower corruption cost, I wonder if you can stack more EV to TD and that balances it out…hrm…

TD does more damage at the cost of being inconsistent and able to miss and whatnot, EV is still ok after nerfs and significantly more consistent, though post nerfs it feels as if rank 1 and 2 are virtually worthless

Ime ev is very consistent but hits like a limp noodle per corruption point. Td hits like a truck. I tanked a 2ad on my 450 guardian a little bit ago to help a guild member and did almost 30k overall. I’m pretty sure if I was geared like my rogue you could have added another close to 10k just how Td scales.

Have Twilight Devastation on my DK. It hits like a truck when it does–top DPS over everything including Chill Streak. If it hits the target, can do hundreds of thousands in seconds (to mobs, never seen it hit a player like that).

Thing is, most short fights, it never procs. I ran a timewalking dungeon, only saw it proc in the beginning a few times, then again right before and during the last boss.

And then as others mentioned, it misses a ton. More often than not, it just zooms past any single target mob I’m fighting. Then in groups, it might just hit 2 targets, zoom right past everything else in a seemingly random direction. At least it doesn’t pull other packs though…

TBH, I think you’ll do a lot more damage with Echoing Void. But Twilight Devastation is a lot of fun because of how inconsistent it is. I am always hoping it procs for some crazy numbers.

I did notice it didn’t seem to proc that often when I did a Heroic dungeon for my Tank bag.

Edit: And for “hitting like a truck”, my auto attacks out did those procs in terms of damage.

I have a Rank 2 TD on my DK and pally and Rank 3 on my DH (415 bracers I’ll probably use all patch). Did the warfront tonight as Veng…OMG 288k from TD popped up when it proc’d…I’m loving Veng right now.

I mean, you could probably get 445 bracers with rank 3 TD.

It definitely does some work on a VDH that’s for sure. Oh and I feel ya on the 415s…

I’ve had it crit for 800K before. But my hp can reach 1.4M

Speaking as a Fury Warrior and not a tank, I’ve not really experienced any of this alleged inconsistency associated with TD. It pretty much always does 14+million damage for me in every key, and on multi-target raid fights has no trouble soundly trumping EV. From my experience, they seem to be in different leagues. EV seems to do about twice as much damage on a pure ST encounter, though sometimes TD procs a lot and keeps up.

How do you tell which rank you have on these?

It’s based on the Corruption they give and the X% of HP damage they do.
