Speaking from a perspective of a “new player” (I’m not really, but I just don’t put on heirlooms for this test), Exile’s Reach is awful for rogues compared to any other class.
Mind you, this is the first time someone could be experiencing the game - or the class.
- Target dummies on the boats take forever to kill.
Auto hits for 1-2 damage, sinister for 6, and no access to finishers. Makes class feel weak relative to others. Pretty big deal as it’s your introduction to the class.
- Captain/Warlords eviscerate tutorial
Having to build up 3, 4, 5 combo points to eviscerate means you’re sitting there longer than any other class to finish this quest which is just pointless.
Without heirlooms, you can’t solo the bear. You deal no damage, crimson vial heals for nothing and the only utility CD you have is sprint with no bleeding mechanics in your kit for DOT kiting
Rogues need a buff level 1-10

Sounds like a learn to play issue.

I can tell you’re bad with social cues, but his complaint isn’t a skill related complaint at all.

Your race combo is fitting, but for anyone wondering
New players can refer to those who are rerolling and want to
While you might get lucky and be able to fight the bear with a group, if you’re in a situation where you have to fight Killclaw solo with no heirlooms, no class knowledge or understanding of the game, this can be a quit moment for sure.
It might give the impression the class is weak and not worth playing, which leads to fewer people playing the class and less feedback provided to enhance overall class design.

I think oddly enough this is the perfect and most honest introduction into the rogue class for a new rogue player. You get to know up front that you’re playing a dev abandoned class full of jank.
Rogue is my main, will always be my main, and I love rogue far more than any other class in WoW. However, it comes with some serious flaws.

You could just say questing is bad for Rogues. I have like 5 Rogues. I might have lost count. Having to tank + not having good gear is always bad. The quick pace of leveling combined with the small amount of gear you get questing sucks.

On an new alt rogue i wouldn’t even leave the boat until level 5 or 6. You will hit level 10 before facing the bear and you can at least use evasion to help off set some of the damage. Turn off tutorials to see your exp bar if that helps

Evasion is a talent that is only picked up at level 12, and no new player is going to instinctively grind to 5-6 on the dummies (they take forever to kill as a rogue) which in itself is absurd just to finish tutorial island.
This isn’t me asking how to play the class, I’ve been playing since 2004.
It’s testing it’s capability for new players by placing limitations such as no heirlooms, putting myself in the mindset of “I have no idea what I’m doing”, and bringing forth the flaws related to the class specific quest.

It is a skill issue, they don’t know how to play a rogue.

So your argument, is that tutorial island being poorly designed because it’s too hard… is that it’s a skill issue because the people on that island aren’t skilled rogues.
That…
That’s what you’re going with?

Nobody cares. Stop spamming the forums with trash and troll posts.
My apologies, I play assassination, or outlaw so I get evasion at level 10 as there is already a linking node there.
I do understand that sub will be a level 12. As for it taking so long after you get eviscerate it goes a lot faster. I do believe it sucks that we have to do things of this manner to survive but it was asked how to do it, so i have a logical answer. Things don’t get super easy for rogues so learning how to deal with sh*t at the start helps.
The bear isn’t a mandatory quest anyway, so if you can’t do it you are not forced to.
Tutorial island does teach players correctly about how Rogues truly play. There is no mirage or rug pull as it keeps it real.

Playing Rogue is either you are all the way in or all the way out. No fence sitting with this class.
It is go go go or you walk away in the other direction.

Ironically your response here is a trash and troll post.
I think it’s important to highlight all related gameplay issues, rather than your particular niche.
The level 1-10 is the biggest hurdle to capture and retain new players.

BlizZard improved the leveling experience for Rogues back in Cata but since then they have slid backwards.

The talent selection is also really poorly optimised for retail

That is because BlizZard uses a one size fits all formula and Rogues lack the necessary tools they need during 1-10.
1-10 is equivalent to 1-20 when the level cap was not squished.
By squishing so much while denying Rogue talents and baseline abilities that is why Rogues tend to function so awkwardly leveling wise.

Evasion should be a core ability, not a talent. Should be swapped with sprint.
The problem with that is Sprint was an important part of Rogue questing which is why having it as a talent or later in leveling has caused issues in the past.

Both sprint and evasion were core to solo levelling.
But if I had a choice I would pick evasion as that damage mitigation to finish off mobs is huge.
Sprint would be more of an 'oh shi-" button if you bit off more than you could chew
