Is there a setting where I can get rid of infinite scrolling? I would prefer to go back to the page view if possible.
Agreed. This would be a nice option to have.
I miss page view too.
The scrolling is as annoying as a well known unpleasant place.
This forum template doesn’t use pages. With scrolling and real time updates I don’t see why people want to go back to pages.
If it’s because before you could remember “so and so on Pg 6” then just bookmark posts you like/want to revisit. Its even better because the system keeps track of all your bookmarks in your profile summary page.
Yeah, I don’t get it. One option you scroll to the bottom until you hit it. The other option you scroll to the bottom, click, scroll to the bottom, click…
It’s the exact same thing minus the click.
It is significantly easier to navigate any post or the forum in general with a page view. Infinite scrolling is not beneficial in any way.
I don’t like this new layout. The forum itself is nice, but the way the threads are laid out, responses should be under individual posts, not at the bottom of the thread.
Essentially, watch for a topic that glows blue, that signals you started a new page.
And for those asking why someone would want this, it’s essentially so they can try to stick with new topics (aka, the page 1 topics) and not infinitely scroll through topics until they’re necroing 2 year old topics several years down the road.
It’s nice to be able to see a good place to stop reading.
They’re both.
You respond directly to a post, it creates dropdown on the replied to post with the post you replied with while adding the replied with post to the bottom.
It also shows a link to the post that a post is replying to so you can go back to read what the person is replying to.
Thus making it much, much easier to follow conversations.
I think it’s rather confusing, to be honest.
Man I wish there was cause I totally need it lol. Everything with the new forums is great but the infinite scrolling.
Do you know how long it’ll take them to scroll to 2 year old posts with this new forum? It’ll essentially be an anti-necro feature. With pages, people will navigate to the very last page to necro.
You can still necro posts though all you have to do is hold the scroll bar down on the right and go all the way to the bottom.
Agree 100% here. I think it may be more of a forum training/use issue than anything. I would wager that most people don’t even know about the new bookmark feature at the bottom of each post or what it does and use it.
Boredom can make you scroll pretty far down. Why do you think I had to take the time to figure out when a new page starts?
I definitely do not like the infinite scrolling, I much prefer pages to break up the posts. I don’t think it’s something I’ll ever get used to.
It’s also a little hard (for me) to keep track of who replies to who, because sometimes it’ll display as a quote and other times it’ll just be a reply with no context, so then you have to either A. remember what every single poster has said or B. scroll back up to find the post that person is replying to in the first place.
I like everything else, but those two things make it a very clunky read for me.
Apart from direct quotes, could you explain to me how it was easier to tell which posts were replied to in the old forum? Some replies to pg2 posts could be on pg3 without any reference.
I fail to see how it was easier to follow in the old format. I think you’re not used to this format yet, and/or too stubborn to get accustomed so this new format will always be displeasing.
The replies on this forum are fine. I just don’t want infinite scrolling. It is easy to go back and forth with page breaks, with infinite scrolling it is just insanely tedious.
None of these complaints hold up well against the “You’re just used to the old way” argument.
The new forums have all the same features as the previous version but with some pretty significant improvements in UX.
The infinite scrolling model is one that’s used by nearly every modern social media site, and it works well here. If you’re having troubles finding posts, just use the bookmark feature.
I’m starting to warm up to most of the new forum features but I really hate infinite scrolling on any platform
