Dishonorable Kills (DKs) are killing World PVP. Tonight, I had aggro from guards in Kargath (I’m a healer), and apparently I SW:P’d a civilian. It dropped me from Cpl to Pte and ruined it for the group.
DKs are ridiculous. How can we even raid Orgrimmar or any opposing towns when it can ruin it for those who aim at higher PVP levels?
I don’t personally care about high rankings, but some do. World PVP is one of the most fun thing in Classic, nobody should be punished because some “General Goods Vendor” got hit by AOE.
But why should that be a requirement at all? It’s so arbitrary, and over civilian NPCs that nobody gives a rat’s a$$ about.
I don’t think anyone would complain if the DHK feature was just mysteriously bugged and never happened to be fixed, because nobody and I mean nobody, even those who like the Honor System, want DHKs.
Do we have to have our character be sleeping in an exact bed inside an inn before we can log off? Do we have to then wait 8 hours to be able to log back in again like some mobile game? I mean, sleep is an RPG mechanic after all.
Should we remove General chat, Trade chat, or other zone-wide / global channels in the name of realism?
I like RPG mechanics, but there’s a point where they get in the way of fun entirely, and in doing so they take a complete 180 and remove the player from the immersion of the game. In the case of both my proposed sleep mechanic, stripping away chat channels, and the DHK system, they also get in the way of other RPG mechanics. If you wanted to seige a giant city like Ironforge and slay their leader in the name of glory amongst the Horde…you can’t because even if you return to Orgrimmar with King Magni’s head on a pike leading a giant parade, Thrall’s still gonna demote you to Grunt because the bread vendor got killed by some stray Frostbolt.
DHK makes it hard to raid cities, and that is on purpose / the point. Cities are where all level people congregate and is a safe haven. Now sure, you can form a raid group and go ransack it, but this has to be the exception, not a normal occurrence. You need to find 40+ like-minded people, who are willing to give up honor in order to have a great experience.
If there were no DHKs, the dominant faction on either side would literally be corpse camping the leaders of every city, and every quest-giver in every smaller town, and not only would leveling become hard, it would become completely impossible.
I think the penalty for DHK is too severe, but also that it is not nearly widespread enough. I’d like to see DHK affect honor (not rank directly) and drop rep by ~ 10x what you’d get for killing the person, but apply to anyone who is green or lower level and to any non-guard NPC in cities / outposts. If you have 0 honor you can certainly do it with no penalty.
you deserve it and your dumba s s raid group should find something better to do.
(everyone that cares about real pvp knew that raiding cities would end after the first week of honor being out) shoulda gotten in your thrall kills in p1.
we had a discussion about this before classic came out and it was unanimously agreed that dhks were lame but then the PvE players and the people who played retail and HATED the idea of classic came into the thread to complain that dhks were needed just to spite us regular fine folk.
LOL DUDE, LIKE JUST THE BEST! Always funny seeing someone make a fool of themselves. You do realize they’re talking about a mechanic that was apart of the initial design from the start of the honor system in vanilla right? They’re in no way saying that we should limit or remove any mechanic to “take the RPG more seriously” they were just stating that the DESIGNERS OVER 15 YEARS AGO took it more seriously back in the time of them making the rules in the first place and that is why killing civis is so punishing, you go join the military and start shooting civilians, see how that does for your rank.
Well, only if you don’t pay attention to your targets. You’d need to slow down a bit, confirm targets before attacking, and be mindful of AoE. It adds a bit more challenge to it.
Of course, if you simply don’t care about rankings, then you have the fun, without the pressure. Keep enough honor to not go in the negative, and you’re fine.
That would actually be pretty awesome. I would totally play a game like that, especially if tech advanced VR to the point where it was full immersion. Hell, half the books I write involve stuff similar to that.
That’d be cool, too. Or give them an in-game reason for being, like communication crystals, or something like that.
cough Well, if we look over at the retail forums, you’ll find a lot of people who would be clutching pearls and saying that he’d be right to demote you for carelessly killing civilians in the middle of bloody conquest. Those people tend to be the ones that sided with Saurfang. Now, if you’re a Sylvanas loyalist like me, then you have no problem with a couple dead civvies, so long as you got a bunch more kills and burned the enemy stronghold to the ground. It evens out in the end.
