Turn Based RPG

Welp. World of Dragongrind has officially bored me out. Knew it was inevitable but watching 15-20 dive bombing dragons mindlessly crashing into the ground to kill mob/events is just, yep. Time for causal mode.

Anyone have a recomendations for an old school turn based like RPG?

Last one I found was X-Com 2 and that was a blast.

All these new games are nothing but FPS hack and slash, I need a story and a chess board.

Final Fantasy 6 has turn based combat. Will that work?

I’m looking forward to Octopath Traveler 2 (2/24/23)

I assume you have already played Divinity: Original Sin 2?

I did, the AI spacing for the ranged made me rage at times lol but it was ok.

I see this Pillars of Eternity popping up on searches.

Pillars of Eternity is real time but you can pause the combat to give commands to your team

the second Pillars of Eternity can be switched to turn base although it was designed for real time.

There is a series called Shadow Run.
There are three I believe. They are not too long but are a bit of fun.

Doh! i can’t believe that i forgot about Shadowrun and Divinity

If you’re willing to venture to other systems or play on emulators…
I mean pokemon is one.

Not a RPG, but Slay the Spire is pretty fun rogue like turn base game.

If you got anything that can play PS1 games (like an emulator), I suggest Thousand Arms. Overlooked JRPG.

There’s also Arcanum: Of Steamwork and Magics Obscura for the PC if you like traditional RPGs.

Persona 5 is a great modern turn-based RPG!

There’s also Into the Breach, which is a turn-based tactics game.

Lastly, I would recommend Darkest Dungeon, which is about to receive a sequel.

Darksun, so far for me it is a cult piece for DOS RPG.

This is my suggestion also. To me its a perfect game.

I think this thread is more western RPG far from JRPG, RPG’s that marked history here in the USA and was more Tolkien or D&D in its aspect a few far from the beauty of lolis waifus I think.

I could choose any JRPG like Breath of Fire, but it says RPG, not JRPG, that’s why you choose this kind of RPG.

Overall, OP, most of the turn-based stuff today will be a JRPG. Most western RPGs nowadays are open-world hack n’ slash. Here’s a vid with more ideas:
