Prove me wrong
Wild Turkeys can fly, just not great distances. This has been known for a long time. It’s how they escape from predators.
Farm raised Turkeys probably not so much as they’re raised to be larger with more meat on them, so they probably can’t fly. Never really bothered to check tbh.
Oddly enough Turkey is one animal i forget can be wild.
Cows more so in Asia and dogs are also ones I forget are wild
and knowing is half the battle!
I live in the sticks and wild turkeys all over the place here. Yes, they can fly a little bit. They will fly up into the trees (oak trees here) for the night. They are also exceptionally stupid creatures, and will injure themselves fighting their own reflection in solid surfaces. They are also not as tasty as farm raised.
God as my witness…
Not far and not particularly well … although I’m remembering a story my brother’s father-in-law used to tell about his days as a loadmaster in Vietnam. They’d be air-dropping crates of chickens to units out in the bush, and a few of them would always wriggle out of the crate, and beat the air for all they were worth on the way down.
Obligatory WKRP clip follows.
The other half is killing somebody.
yep, but it’s tough to believe when you see one in person. i’ve seen them on top of houses and thought “how on earth did they get up there?” until i remember… oh right, they actually can fly a bit!
They can make short flights. On to low branches or over brush/across a medow to escape predators.
Where I grew up wild turkeys were a really common sight on lawns, along side deer.
Domestic turkeys, who knows. If they’re anything like chickens they come in a thousand breeds. Some may be able to fly, most probably not.
I don’t know if turkeys can fly. I just know they are extremely territorial and will mess you up being anywhere near their neighborhood.
What, you thought people owned this sidewalk? Not anymore.
I agree. My family used to have a turkey sized sling shot we’d used to launch turkeys to passers-by for thanksgiving - A free turkey. Till the car wreck of 08.
You are staring at the dinner table.
Domestic turkeys are bread to be large and are typically too fat to fly.
Domestic turkeys also can not breed w/o assistance due to their size.
Donkeys! Donkeys can be wild too!
There’s a town in Arizona called Oatman or something where they just walk the streets, wander into shops, etc.
Apparently their mayor is also a donkey!
that turkey is a G
I never lived around turkeys (except that one neighbor) but chickens can fly a bit too.
Kinda like my alt…uhh demon hunter? What’s that thing called with the double jump/glide thing - like that. (was just leveling her last nite too)
Turkey flying.
(My butterball is thawing for Saturday’s dinner so all is well in this world. Except I wanted to eat turkey today!)
They can. That was easy. Next !?
