Hey there, just coming back to do the 20th anniversary events and i’ve been trying to figure out what warbands is all about,
from what i can tell, warbands allow you to access/share resources across all your characters (with the obvious exception of soulbound items),
since I will be able to stash gold/currency and any materials i need in warband bank and share between all characters within same region, does it even matter if my characters are on the same server or not?
rather, is there even any benefits to have characters on the same server?
right now i am thinking i should split my characters across all non-connected realms, not only would i be able to use the same character name on all my characters as they are no longer on the same server, I would also be able to access/farm server specific cooldown things, and trade with anyone on the servers i have a character on. I see no negatives and only positives in splitting up my roster across different servers now. Guilds are cross faction/realm now too anyways so I don’t really see that stopping me from participating in group activities no matter which server i am playing on. open world is sharded anyways
Am i correct or am i still missing something?
I wonder that myself. Would it be better to have characters on different realms or consolidate all of them on a singular realm.
Course I’m so damn wishy washy it’s a wonder I get anything done. Here’s hoping you can find your answer.

My concern about doing that with your character names would be any eventual mega-merge. I’m sure they’d use masked numbers so you can keep your character names, but then it might become difficult to determine which character is which.
Naturally if you only have 10 characters, it’s a minor concern, but I hear some people have a metric ton of alts!
I’ve consolidated mine on “one server”, but I feel if the WoW server configuration was the way it is when I was seeking to bring my character’s over to WrA, I probably would not have bothered.
In your case you sound like a farmer who is into optimization, so multiple servers sounds the way to go for you. Good gaming!

Just have one Alliance and one Horde server

The only issue would be crafting for alts unless they are in the same guild.

As someone who already had characters on five different realms, this was actually an amazing addition. It was always difficult to try to keep them on par with one another. It was also difficult to keep my horde side fed while my alliance side thrived. I can now take care of both factions on any server using the exact same bank and it’s wonderful. So if you decide to branch out into other servers, you can because there can already be money and other things waiting for you when you get there.

could you elaborate in what ways? i am also not familiar with the profession updates either, does this have something to do with the work order systems?
otherwise in terms of crafting i am not seeing how it is different from before, as anything not soulbound can be stash traded and anything soulbound couldnt be traded regardless right?
thats what i had before, all my mains are on sargaras and or illidan, but is there any actual benefit to this?
reason i am asking is because i have server transfers that i bought previously and never used, and i am thinking about spreading out my characters across realms so i get to experience different servers and their trade chat cultures as opposed to just the one server on each side
Yes, you can’t send orders to someone in a not connected server but can bypass that restriction with guild orders.

understood, thanks for the info! i guess in my case if i am in an active guild crafting wouldn’t be an issue with guildmates, and if i am not in an active guild i could just be in my own guild to send those assuming i actually level up my professions again XD
thanks again!
Well, one benefit of spreading your characters across multiple realm is that you can play tue Ah. Buy cheaper items on one and sell them for profit on another.
