Trying to understand how to get "into" M+

Hi, Trying to grasp the real appeal of M+, I like the scaling “DMG/Health” at the key level, but i find it hard to care myself when the week affixes are extra health to x mob or x boss.

Do others hit this same problem? Like some weeks seem fun, add some cool little mechanic to dodge, or have to target etc. But then other weeks are like pulling teeth at the same key level. That feels insane to me, im not sure how to get interested at all or try to find a group that runs alot of 15+ or whatever the case.

Just curious if there is something im missing, do normal “M+” teams still run 10-20 dungeons on a week where bosses get a hp pool boost, and trash has an hp pool boost, and extra trash exist etc. Or do others also avoid certain affixes like a plague?

There’s a reason some weeks are called push weeks.

I really just wish they’d add an option to port your group to the dungeon once it’s full.

If I wanted to run around the map I’d be playing classic.

And I avoid players for my pug groups who have nothing but push week scores. It implies that these people just stop playing half the time when a serious challenge comes up. I’m not talking about high keys here but the 18-20 (and hopefully higher soon for me) range.

This week is extra fun declining screenfuls of applicants with all timed runs above +16 being bursting + volcanic, and then having those players rage whispering me because they don’t realize that their experience is mostly useless in the context of the current tyrannical key. Thanks blizzard.

If you like taking the easy street most/all of the time, then sure go ahead and stop playing M+ above 15 half or more of the time. Just realize that some pug leaders will look down on that.

Except for some cheesy unavoidable damage outliers like first boss KR I generally prefer tyrannical weeks because a lot of it is pass/fail. For example in siege. Can you consistently bring the first boss to bombs for several minutes ? congratulations you win. You can’t ? You fail, gear won’t save you. Unsurprisingly siege is one of the tyrannical keys hated by pugs along with KR, TD, UR and shrine.

There are two big appealing aspects to M+:

  • Gear
  • Pushing character/skill limits

Even if executed in a way that gives the fewest demolishes per platform, the last boss of siege takes 5+ minutes at 20+. I’ve tried 3 times to time this key and 1 of those I had 6.5m to kill it, then the healer started lagging randomly and we failed.

Compare that to the shrine 20 where I got to the last boss with 13m, wiped and still had time to kill him before the timer ran out. Tyrannical is usually pretty boring unless you can pull some trash into a boss.

More on topic, I’ve still been crushing 15-19 this week because the affixes aren’t really an issue at that level. I’ve been just joining groups that make snarky comments about tanks for the lulls and 2 chesting them. I don’t avoid any weeks, except maybe bolster explosive tyrannical. There wasn’t a single dungeon I wanted to do with those affixes and still did like 10 that week.

Multi-target and/or multi-phase tyrannical boss fights are kind of dumb and excessive I agree. There needs to be tuning there for sure regarding tyrannical health numbers. For example third and fourth boss in KR.

Everyone loves making fun of tanks while acting like a tanking expert, especially those that can tank but decide not to for…reasons.

Did a TOS 19 that week on my warrior. It was tough as expected but satisfying to time. M+ is all I do and if I’m just going to stop playing half or 2/3 of the time then why am I playing this game at all, even for the sake of enjoyment.

Yea, I just drop a few levels on harder weeks. Timing 20s this week is tight for my group, so it’s less stress to just chill in 19s.

This is basically it. For an alt or new person that just leveled… mythic+ dungeons are the fastest way to acquire gear so you can catch-up to others because you can do them non-stop. You’re also put on a leaderboard where you’re ranked against others.

I also realized that people really aren’t doing these at all because I’m apparently #13 alliance priest for my server on the rankings and I only started doing these a week ago…

Not surprised, Priest is an unpopular pick, you’re on the less competitive faction and on a low/mid pop realm. At 3300 I’m in the 20s for Prot paladins on my server, My buddy with a similar io is just beyond 200 for the server.

Pretty much this server is deadso in terms of people pushing content.
