I tried a few times, I waited for prepatch and told myself I’d give it a solid try and roll a shadow Velf knock out the heritage armor and learn the play style as I level. I have many warriors, DKs, DHs, paladins & monks so obviously, I like melee.
I guess it is still not my time yet to switch. Leveling shadow, dungeon DPS or healing as Holy, can do it, don’t like it. Priest is 47 and will be parked at 50 I think, atleast he’ll look cool. I just wana get back to smashing things up close.
Anyone else just cant make similar playstyle switch?

yeah, can’t play caster, don’t feel combat without melee hits
and even worse in pvp with all those interrupts and having to run away instead of chasing

All I have to say is good luck. I am not a fan of casting spells. Being forced to not be able to move to do damage goes against all of my instincts for the past 30 years, lol. I love a lot of the themes of the casters, especially while shaman, but I just can’t make myself do it.
Spriest also received significant nerfs on the beta test so expect it to be a lot worse than it is currently in pre patch.
I have three capped hunters, and an additional hunter sitting at Legion cap.
Two capped priests, third at 48.
Different playstyles but both hard to break away from. And holy priest’s fun while leveling in dungeons doesn’t translate into endgame viability, a lesson I’m always relearning.
I have everything. If you want a caster but have issues getting the hang of the playstyle then I’d suggest a Hunter, either MM or BM. They’re technically casters but have less of a “getting used to it” curve than a Mage, Priest, or even Warlock would.
Now if you still want a “true” caster then try Destro Warlock. TBH SPriest was the worst one you could have gone with, lots of DOTs, lots and lots.

i tried to go melee but i have been a hunter/lock since o5 with very few runs into the melee field but i needed a tank or 2 for guild and i am seriously not a fan of melee to much
Modern casters aren’t very fun in my opinion, I wish blizzard had followed through on their original warlock design choice in that you could in theory build around melee…but they then decided to build in automatic glancing blows for casters on every melee swing against non trivial targets and then threw firestones away.
I would have played a melee warlock tbh seems like a cooler fantasy than wanding or running away from enemies in PvP.
first. u are a brown orc warr with tusks. why the f would u ever swap off that char.
second, to answer your question, im the opposite. have played mostly caster, and tried out melee.
it’s “fun”, up to a point. in pve, the SMASH!!! is fun for the first 15 minutes. then all you end up doing is your screen is full of clutter, a crap ton of mobs all there, all the melees and stupid effects cluttering your face, and your ear is assaulted with cacophony of indistinguishable battle noise.
in pvp, it’s great fun smashing noobs who have no idea what they are doing. and then you run into someone who knows what they are doing, who picks you off at range and if you decide to attack him, you overextend and gets deleted instantly. if you don’t decide to attack him, you stand there, looking at him, while being blasted, running behind a pillar and begging your healer to keep u alive.
Melee would probably always be something i do for fun when there are nothing better to do. I won’t ever play it “serious serious”.
I prefer caster over melee, always have a targeting issue with melee – everyone is different.
I’ve tried mage and warlock. Both feel so slow to me. I do like hunter at least I can move while shooting. With the casters I just feel like I waiting more than I’m playing. The rev time kills me.
If wanting to try caster you must try mage, both warlock and priest are horrible for new players as they are both dot classes and no melee class even comes close to a dot class. Also recommend arcane for new to caster even if you don’t use it at 50/max level.
i don’t play caster class because i don’t know how to run like a coward…

I’m pretty much the same, but I favor agility-based classes above all else. I absolutely hate casters, but I can’t hate ranged because I love the Marksmanship hunter play style. My main is a rogue, so I can’t say it’s a differentiation between melee and ranged.
Plate users always feel clunky to me. I’m not sure if it’s something to do with how I’m perceiving their actions or maybe its the APM, but their attacks just feel so much slower than my rogue.
It feels great to be able to apply a bunch of bleeds and poisons on a target in melee range with my rogue and its extremely satisfying to one-shot snipe a target from a distance on my hunter (even if someone can swoop in while setting up a shot).
yea I have a mage that was 110 so now 45, I was thinking of trying arcane since I leveled him up as fire but wasnt feeling it. Atleast its only 5 levels lol!
