I remember being a hardcore PvP player back in WoTLK and with classic out I plane to relive my beginning PvP glory days. and as we all know PvP and gear was always changing a lot every expansion. Hell, Im trying to remember when ‘PvP Power’ was a thing for a short time.
And I remember PvP gear was just garbage compared to just using PvE tire sets to do optimal damage in PvP. and I remember resilience in PvP gear only lowering CRIT damage and not base damage.
So yeah does anyone else remember WotLK PvP the way I did? I remember going full DK tier 7 for BGs because I felt weak in gladiator gear. Thanks to anyone who can help refresh my memory.
You might get more responses or better memories asking in here:
If you want (totally up to you, of course!) you can edit your title and move it there. Not saying people here won’t remember, just have a feeling more over there may.

i mostly remember having that one buff in WG and plowing through alliance foes on my blood elf paladin.
Oh and SotA and how much fun i had in there.
Using pve tier set was uncommon in arena. Pve gear in general (mostly toc and icc) was pretty common, at least for trinkets and icc ring / weapons. Your damage will be way higher in pve gear, but in full pve you’re going to explode.
I remembered how OP death knights were with the epic starter gear from the start zone. I walking into a BG and destroyed all the glad players as a noob. It was fregging awesome and boy did the pvpers cry hard.
I only started playing an a PVP server back in Cataclysm.
My surprise is how unchill World PvP feels on a classic server. Classic, TBC, WOTLK… like half the enemies who gank me will be 10+ levels higher and they’ll sit on your corpse for 5 minutes. It feels so… mean-spirited
Sure, once in a blue moon, this happened in Retail. Even in Cata/MoP on a heavy world PvP server, this kind of behavior did not pervade this much though. On ED, genuinely, most people seem to avoid excessively killing those who pose no threat to them. They’ll get you once if you get in their way, then leave you be.
A very large number of Classic PVPers genuinely seem to be angry, hateful people.
I remember having 30-45+ minute matches during WOTLK arenas because Resto Druids basically had infinite mana.
DKs were super op at expansion start and got nerfed a lot. I remember struggling to burst down healers because of the lack of a mortal strike.
I remember going into BGs with my heroic read gear and absolutely demolishing people.
Roll a DK and kill everyone pressing whatever button you want
PvE Gear and tier sets were king in PvP during Wrath.
You had resilience… but between stam enchants and gems it was better to focus on just having hitpoints and killing your enemy before they could kill you IIRC.
Without perfectly executed crowd control from 2 or more other players a raid-geared healer was immortal in PvP, if the CC wasn’t perfect then diminishing returns would royally mess you up.
Also Armor Pen was a thing and a Warrior or Rogue with Armor Pen would absolutely murder just about anything (except the previously mentioned Raid-Geared Healer who just needed 1, maybe 2 casts to completely reverse all your damage CD’s).
By Ulduar I remember a single Holy Light cast was all I needed to get off to completely restore an entire Health Bar.
Paladins were fairly OP because almost all their damage was Holy, which nothing had resistances against so we inherently had Armor Pen that others had to stack for.
DK’s were similar, but Priests and Paladins could pop Resistances that could counter a good chunk of the damage types DK’s could put out.
Wrong forums there’s a GD for that.
