Maybe you should consider rolling on a PvE server instead. It sounds as though you do not enjoy PvP servers.
This seems to be the exception, then? My Troll Warrior is level 40 at the moment, and in the time it’s taken to get there, I have been ganked over two dozen times, on a server that is supposedly extremely Horde-heavy (or so I’m told).
Before that, I got a Human Rogue to 42 on a different PvP server, and in the time it took to get there, I was similarly ganked dozens of times.
I guess we’re just going to have to disagree on the nature of players on PvP servers, as our experiences have been too different. Maybe it’s a bit nihilistic of me, but I tend to think that, given absolute freedom in an environment free of real world consequences, people will usually give into their baser instincts toward violence and conflict for no greater reason than being bored, although the time it takes to reach the necessary level of boredom varies between individuals.
I’m not ascribing any moral compass to that, either. It’s fine because it’s not the real world. People gank. Not all of them, sure, but enough that it’s a fact of life.
As it happens, I’ve also had cases where people have been quite friendly despite faction enmity. When my Troll was around 34, I had a 60 Human Warlock follow me around for about five minutes helping me kill mobs and allowing me to skin them. I paid that forward to a 30 Human Paladin by taunting a couple of mobs off of him when he was about to die with Forbearance already active on him.
In the future, I may kill that Paladin, or I may be killed by that Paladin. Truth be told, I don’t even remember his name, nor do I care to.
Nonetheless, the assumption that those who gank lack skill is based in a number of logical fallacies.
the exact response i am looking for.
I would assume that it’s the norm, and not the exception. It sure seems to be from my perspective, and from virtually all reports from people who actually play on PVP servers, I’ve heard similar.
Yes, perhaps this is true.
I think you’re over-looking the consequences that can and do exist on PVP servers, even if they aren’t supported very strongly, they may well affect most normally socialized people, which are what we are actually interacting with mostly in WoW.
How likely is it that someone will earn a bad reputation for ganking lowbies? Probably extremely unlikely, but it is possible. People who are socialized would like to avoid putting themselves into situations that could earn them bad reputations.
Other potential consequences are that the low level players could have high level mains, or friends who will come and kill those who are ganking. I’d assume it is unlikely that lowbie gankers have friends who are with them, as WoW is a greatly social game, with many social interactions, and has mostly socialized individuals.
I’d go further to say that people who revel in ganking low level players may actually also exhibit similar behavior in the real world, though that’s a stretch, of course… but where you tend to think that people’s darker natures come out in WoW, I tend to think that WoW is not so different from the real world, although a lot of the premises are different. During the time of Vanilla WoW, I don’t think it was as common as it is today for people to run their businesses or do their day to day work almost (or completely) exclusively online, as it is today.
In any case, there is that saying, “Birds of a feather flock together…” So, perhaps people who live out their fantasies of tormenting those less powerful than them in WoW tend to find each other moreso than those who do not. /shrug
Absolutely. That doesn’t mean it isn’t true though.
Ganking is a cowards activity. But you did choose a pvp server, just find a less contested or non contested area to level in
This largely depends. Earlier today there was a group of four 50+ Alliance toons roaming Arathi Highlands ganking any Horde they saw. I can’t speak to their level of skill, though. For all I know, they’re a fantastic team who got sick of farming raid materials and wanted to let off some steam.
The core difference between my point of view and yours seems to be optimism versus pessimism. And maybe it’s true that pessimism tends to attract negative outcomes.
I will say that one of my fondest memories thus far took place in Alterac. Was ganked by a Warlock seven levels higher than me, who then took off on his mount. But then I spotted him kiting the elite Ogres, clearly soloing an elite group quest.
It turns out that he was not as invulnerable to attack from me as he thought – all it took was a Charge and Hamstring to get him back for killing me, and I didn’t see him again after that.
Highly enjoyable experience prevailing against a stronger foe through guile rather than strength.
We are years ahead of our time on PvE servers. Instead of mindlessly killing each other, we co-operate with the opposite faction in order to combat the greater threat to Azeroth itself.
PvP on a PvP server?
IMPOSSIBRU
I had no problem and I leveled pretty steadily in places like STV, Tanaris, Ungoro, 1k needles etc. But then again I wasn’t a carebear so I generally killed any enemies before they got the opportunity to kill me. And if one was hangin around that I couldn’t kill I’d call em out in general and someone who could kill them would come and do it.
Go to your carebear server and be a carebear over there. Don’t come to PvP servers if all your gonna do is complain. You won’t be missed.
Low level grey says: me lo ve y o u
Low level grey says: me lo ve y o u
Low level grey says: me lo ve y o u
You have killed low level grey.
Stopped reading there…
They don’t call it STVietnam for nothing.
If you wanna quest there, you gotta do it off hours.
You understand wrong…

This is the PvP experience you signed up for.
And the reason PvE servers exist.
When you go up more levels the thing calm down. For some reason some player won’t attack if there are less than 10 level of difference.
I kill lowbies whenever Im passing through a zone and someone lights up in chat that they get attacked by horde.
Then I just indiscriminately kill(or attempt to kill) every horde I see regardless of level. When successful, usually that calms the zone down for a while when all the baby hordelings leave for a bit.
If you are in stranglethorn and lvl 24 you don’t want to wPvP you would really just be better off losing your progress now because you won’t be making much on that server.
I would really love to know the numbers of the amount of people that roll on a PvP server… and then quit the game because of it.
Those same people when you tell them to roll PvE will laugh and say some passive aggressive comment about how awesome world PVP is…
then when they make it to STV, find it impossible to progress and then quit.
I have seen it happen so many times it is a joke at this point.
that is old data - lots of movement since then and there is nothing recent
False.
I took it upon myself to do an unofficial Loremaster achievement and did every (Horde) quest in every zone I could before they turned grey, including the dungeon quests. I hit 60 before even stepping foot in Winterspring or EPL and never had to grind once nor run any dungeons more than once along the way.
This “there aren’t enough quests” idea needs to die. There’s lots of quests out there, if you seek them out.
Are there anymore real servers at all?
So go to a less populated server.
Why do you people always just want to complain about a solution you can easily solve yourself?
I leveled from 31 to 37 this weekend. Mainly in Hillsbrad, Thousand Needles, STV and Arathi Highlands. All of these are highly contested zones.
I. have. missed. this. so. much.
The PvP, for the most part, was awesome. It was low level characters vs low level characters with the occasional jerk ?? person who camped. I was only camped twice - once by a mage in the Troll area in northern STV and once by a rogue over near Bhag’Thera. Everything else was pretty equal I feel where numbers generally were the winning point.
I had a melee fight with another mage (until a priest murdered me) which was silly fun. I had a couple of shadow priests who must hate me. This warrior who grouped with a priest was easy to blow up once the priest was sheeped.
I really enjoy PvP. The excitement of looking over your shoulder as you’re questing is really something else. Ganking a rogue only to know you’re asking for it in the future from that same rogue (here’s looking at you random guy in the shimmering flats).
How you can be mad about this? I don’t know. PvP servers aren’t for everyone. If you’re complaining about it here you are weak and your bloodline is weak.
