Forcing your players to go through the entirety of the Shadowlands campaign and THEN grind to 80 renown for transmog feels gruelling and has led me to quit this game more than once. I never played during Shadowlands. It’s the only expansion I didn’t play. However, I normally like going back through old quests and raid content to farm mogs.
This doesn’t spark that same joy. It feels awful. No one is in SL zones anymore, either. It’s the most empty of any of the old expansion zones out there – and we’re forced to walk and sit through endless talking quests that already feel brutal because the lore itself is brutal. You can’t even decide what zone to start with, you’re forced to do Bastion and I can’t get past it! It sucks! I’m miserable!
Blizzard, please figure out something because all of your beautiful mogs are locked behind Shadowlands and it STILL feels like a punishment for playing this game.
If you max out renown for one covenant on one character, you can use that character to buy an item from the vendor next to the flight master in Oribos that instantly gets you renown 60 for another covenant.
Okay but here’s the thing: I never played Shadowlands. I have no Covenant. I have no MAXED renown rank 80 Covenant. Every time I try to do Shadowlands, I am so lonely, miserable, and bored that I end up not logging in and I end up quitting and leaving the game to play anything else. I’m begging for an alternative or something to make this less brutal. I’d rather deal with RNG farms.
I understand and I’m sorry it’s miserable for you.
If you could just pick a covenant and max it out, it would be really easy to do the others. It probably would only take a day or two if you had time and just stuck with it.
That’s how it felt live. I hated being 60 and still having to finish a zone and a half worth of story to unlock the end game. I’ve played since vanilla and never felt like that until sl. Luckily it’s once and done. You have fast catch up for renown and you can farm the rest running the old raids if you have the gear. Even on solo lfr.
You have to go through the entirety of the Campaign before you can pick a Covenant. Blizzard doesn’t let you Threads of Fate especially if you haven’t played through the Campaign in full. So it’s campaign → covenant → covenant storylines / renown grind all without flight in zones that don’t have anyone in them.
Idk how you guys dealt with this. Like I truly believe you deserve some kind of recognition for being able to make it through SL live but omg.
I know there’s an option to LFR but I’m talking about Covenant armors, which for new players (which Blizzard is trying to attract and retain) and returning players, SL is not friendly toward.
Literally everything now gives you more renown. You can go up like two to three levels in some cases depending on what your doing. Yes it’s still grindy, but it shouldn’t take you more then at least two weeks of the daily grind to max out. It will go as fast as you want it now. If you don’t put in the work your going to get no where, in the time you came the forum you probably could have gotten 5 or more renown from things. Torg is probably the fastest way to get it up too btw. Unless you’re a hater of that too. Not trying to be a jerk but they made it stupidly easy now.
Oh got it, I didn’t realize you haven’t finished the campaigns in the zones. Yeah unfortunately you do have to just do the campaign quests in the zones first. If you’re doing it on a level 70, it really shouldn’t take long.
I’m not trying to be dismissive, and I hope it’s not coming off that way.
It’s just going to be a little time commitment, but try to just speed through it to get where you want to be and you can always come back to it if you want to just do a little at a time.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think you’re being dismissive. However, I think this is a situation Blizzard can do better with and absolutely should. I wouldn’t complain if I was able to choose my Covenant while doing the main quests and earn renown at the same time because then it would feel like everything mattered.
But to do everything like we’re still in the tail end of Shadowlands (when they buffed renown gains) and still have no flight? There’s no reason for this.
To people who had to suffer through Shadowlands: I am sincerely sorry for you, dudes. That sucks. I wish I could wrap you in a foil blanket.
However! This is going to continue to be a problem as new players come in, see fancy mogs, and see the absolute pain machine Blizz is still forcing people to endure to get them.
The massive, crippling restrictions on obtaining and using Shadowlands mogs is one of my biggest complaints about the entire covenant system.
If there’s a specific piece you’re after, it’s basically a journey and a half to get it.
And that’s IF you actually played Shadowlands while it was live. I can’t imagine trying to start all this from a complete blank slate, with no renown-capped main, campaign skips, or a huge amount of reserve anima to blow through.
Like, trying to get the full covenant-specific transmog sets, in all four colorations, for all four covenants, in all four armor types? Yeah, no.
And as an evoker now, it’s extra-annoying to try and farm Castle Nathria, as the weapon tokens that drop there don’t apply to evokers for some stupid reason. So if I want a specific Shadowlands weapon on my evoker, I’m FORCED to farm it on an alt.
With all due respect, these are not even comparable. People still farm TBC and WotLK items to date. You are also not forced to go through a mandatory storyline before you can earn certain TBC / WotLK items. Even gated things like Netherwing Drakes do not have a grueling storyline prior to unlocking the dailies.
Thank you for being a voice of reason. Blizzard needs to do something to address this – I still can’t believe you have to have the rep to wear certain things on alts if you’ve already farmed out the renown on your mains. Wtf.
