Trying to get into arenas as a new player is impossible lol

Hi,

I normally do not post on forums or care to express my gripes and complaints at all. But yeah… Feel free to agree or disagree with me. Actually, I would love to hear some feedback (whether it is positive or negative).

Let me begin by saying that I love WoW and that I want it to succeed. I don’t like bashing it. It is probably my favorite game… BFA not so much. I just want to feel like i’m spending my money to actually play the game doing the content that I would like to do while having FUN and not spending half of my time mindlessly completely never ending chores (e.g. enter the infinite grind systems.)

I have played on and off since the end of Wrath (This is a new account so I don’t really have any merit/achievements to back that claim up). I just do not remember it ever being this hard/time consuming for one to actually get into the content that one actually wants to do.

For example, if I wanted to PvP (back in wrath all the way up until Legion), I could get slayed in bg’s until I had enough conquest to buy the gear that was needed to be able to compete. I feel that ever since WoD -maybe even CATA- (even though I thought PvP in CATA was great) the game has slowly become -and I do not want to insult people who enjoyed those expansions- in my opinion overly simplified (look at WoD arms warriors for example) while masking the over simplification behind an obvious mobile, let’s keep 'em hooked with war-forging, titan-forging, jjimmy type of system.

My gripe right now is that I want to get back into arenas. However, in order to get to do arenas with any hope of competing, I need to spend 10 weeks logging in daily to run around the different zones like some hamster on a wheel grinding azerite nonsense for a neck piece AS WELL AS all these different essences that do more damage than a classes actual abilities ALL WHILE chasing the different currencies for a cloak and corruption to put on my gear that really has no meaning because a pair of ilvl 420 boots can actually be better than 460 boots due to the random corruption that manifested itself onto them? WHERE is the reward in obtaining higher level gear?

WHAT happened to BiS that was able to be targeted? Yes, there was RNG, but not like this. It was mostly in the form of did the gear drop or not?

Master Loot is gone. Now we have slot machines. This much RNG should be an ethics violation. It’s using casino style psychology to keep you hooked.

There is no real rewards for dedicating extended periods of time because you are walled off by limited dailies and world content that tells you to come back after the reset… rolls eyes

AND WHEN YOU COMPLETE THE DAILIES YOU FIND THAT THERE IS REALLY NO REAL CONTENT TO BE DONE! Sorry, caps lock.

I’m not a casual player. When I play I actually play. I know it’s not healthy by any means, but I’ve been playing this game around 12 hours a day since I came back.

In my opinion, and again I don’t want to offend anybody who actually enjoys things like this, but raiderio killed lfg for new and returning players. For instance, I’ve been trying to get into mythic +'s to get gear in order to pvp with and i’ve probably done about 3 since last week… I just keep getting declined because my ilvl or io is not high enough for the key level that I’m supposed to be running even tho I’m at the same or above the ilvl that the key requires? RaiderIO prevents that. The group leader probably sees me as some scrub that will stand in fire or cant press my 3-5 button rotation…

TOO LONG DIDN’T READ? That’s okay! Shadowlands is coming soon anyway and I see that some of this stuff is being dealt with. But please devs (if they even read the forums) never again resort to such a rng heavy system. Make our abilities matter. NO MORE PASSIVES RNG PROCS. COUGH LETHAL STRIKES AND GUSHING WOUNDS. Let us reforge the gear… LET US CHOOSE THE STATS WE WANT FROM THE PVP VENDOR. NO MORE INFINITE GRINDS. Let us have something we can aim for!!! Let pvpers pvp without having to do the same dungeons over and over again. PLEASE!?! You do know if the game is actually fun people will want to devote their time to it right? Stop the madness please lol

I see your points and I agree with them. Raider io has literally ruined the dungeon experience for me. I much prefer an achievement based system of filtering rather some arbitrary score.

However I do see why it exists, the gear is so easy to get and mythic 15s are spammable and easy to abuse for higher gear.

That’s changing in shadowlands. As for masterloot idk how I feel about that, that could lead to alot of pug issues. I do think there should be a reputation score for players. Similar to leagues honor system.

That’ll weed out people I would not want to play with. I agree with most of your points. This expansion has been silly.

They literally fixed that by preventing it from being used by pugs.
It was for guild groups only and it worked just fine that way.

Read it all and they’re all things that have been said multiple times. Some tid bits to leave you with.

Raiderio is like a credit score. I know you know this but I’m saying it’s a tool. I understand your gripe but if you’re going to gripe, gripe about the player’s who make assumptions based off it. People are one dimensional. Even if you have a fresh toon and say you timed 15’s on half the dungeons but the other half you haven’t done yet. Your score will be low and they’ll probably deny you even for 12’s. It’s the people who make it bad, not the tool. The tool does its purpose because let’s be honest, for every genuine decent player who gets raiderio-walled, countless others get blocked for good reason lol.

The rest I guess I get. It’s tedious. Lol.

P.S,m. If you want brought in some higher keys, let me know. I work a lot but if I’m on, I have no problem helping. Elagarf#1801

Yeah, I understand why it was developed and I know people who are pushing high keys and enjoy that type of content value it.

But as someone who really only wants to do arenas, it is indeed very aggravating and tedious. I just want to que up while getting better mechanically at my class and then go compete against other players.

But the game is just working against me by piling all these chores on top of chores for me to complete before I can even step foot inside of an arena without (lol) getting obliterated by non class abilities.

Well, you’re playing an mmorpg.

By design, if you want to be on par with other players, you have to put in a comparable amount of time as they have put in. This isn’t a MOBA or a FPS.

Granted, corruption has taken that (reasonable concept) and, well, corrupted it. This patch is arguably the worst patch in history for a returning player. All the same, we have prepatch in a few weeks. Just get ready for shadowlands, and start from day one there.

Raider io is, ideally, a score to help players find other players with similar experience. Yes, it punishes you if you have low experience, but, again, other players aren’t obligated to carry you through content because you’re a returning player. People with higher raider io’s have likely been running these dungeons for months, if not years, and may not want to take time to educate or carry other people, which is not unfair. If you want to run dungeons sans raider io, get a keystone, create a group, and roll with it. Then ask players in that group what keys they have, and keep it going.

However, I can confidently say that once you get some experience and familiarity with running dungeons, you’ll quickly tire of groups that don’t use raider io.

It’s a lot easier to hate raider io when you’re the one who wants a carry

All you need to do is find one person to play with and have low expectations about how high you can push. My friend and I did 144 games on our unholy dks in 2v2 and I started with 432 ilvl and he had 454 ilvl and of those game we won 67 with a 47% win rate. This was us constantly going up against people with 480k+ health and I was sitting at 354k and friend with 459k hp. Our highest rating was 1566…

Would it have been nice to fight similarly geared people? Heck yeah, it would have been however we understand it’s not going to happen especially with arena being a viable way to farm corruptions. However, did we have fun? Hells yeah we did! As long as you enjoy doing arena, you’ll still have a very fun time.

I was in the same position as you last month. I just came back fresh after taking a break in WoD 6.3.

Spent some nights spamming Mythic runs to get that Echo! Honestly, there’s nothing really we can do about it but just play more. That’s what they are going for.

But it gets easier and better once you are geared.
Don’t queue in mythics that are higher as some people may want to push. If you aren’t getting in any, my suggestion is to get in a chill guild or start your own group and slowly push up.

As for arena, there’s alot of gushing wounds and hasted locks out there. You probably won’t get BiS anytime soon like you mentioned no vendor so just play and have fun. One thing you’ll benefit from is experience in arenas which will help you in Shadowlands if you are keen to play from the very start.

I don’t have my BIS items and still grinding for some corruptions even after coming back 1 month and playing alot these days.

Yes, I agree this is a mmo. I also agree that this (in my opinion) may be without a doubt the worst patch ever for a returning player. Honestly i’m not asking for +15 carries lol. I’m just trying to do the mythics that my gear level requires. Once I finish my key that I just +3’d, I’m essentially asking for a carry without asking for a carry. So when I go to join other groups I get declined because of raider io. It is a flawed system but I get why people use it.

Any world where weapons like cut of death outshine any 2hander that drops from a pvp reward or pvp chest is also the worst expansion for a pvper in my eyes. I do not get why this is a thing. I mean I guess I can see why taking your shiny new toy to slay people is appealing to some but like their used to be an incentive for strictly pvping. That is gone now.

Now In order to PvP… I have to grind this cloak, do dailies, do mythic+, do raids, farm corruption to get over 1600 rated. Because some specs just absolutely delet people in less than 30 seconds lol. At least in 2s. Even if they try to cast the same cc on you even after you are fully DR’d and continue to do so because they don’t really know what they are doing… (: The gear/corruption is hard carrying.

I don’t mean to bash those certain specs, but yeah they are pretty strong right now haha. I know they can be beaten. I’ve seen it. I’ve done it without having the gear, but it certainly is a hassle.

I mean do I sound lazy or come off as being entitled when I say I just want to gear up through PvP in a PvE oriented game? I hope not. I do, however, just want to do arenas and be able to compete. I guess it is definitely too late in the expansion to try to push.

I know I can always que up for fun and stick with the grind in shadowlands. I’m over complaining because it doesn’t get me anywhere lol.

If blizzard just banned the addons you’ll see alot more people working together. In final fantasy MMO just a mere mention of someone else’s DPS could get you into trouble. WOW just Festers this nonsense, the community made this mess.

I would just move on to a different game. Wow isn’t good anymore and many in the community pretend it is.

No you won’t. Once you’re up to a certain level of m+, people are going to check if they don’t personally know you. If they can’t do it through an add-on, they’ll do it through armory. Raider io just expedites the process.

It is the best mmorpg on the market, so if mmorpg’s is the category of game you want to play… yes, it is good.

People can do w.e they want but the devs have the final say. It’s their call I just think it would be better for the community as a whole than to label people on some bs score.

Also, the MMO market has been in decline for years, and it’s still in decline. WOW expedited it. Any one with a brain can look at a graph and see how hard the game is nose falling. Blizzard refuses to give out their numbers and it’s alot more difficult to find how active the game really is. If you removed classic out of the equation I doubt this game even reaches 1 mil active players daily.

You can “think” it’s good, that’s fine but the numbers don’t look good for you in the long haul. We’ll get a bump in shadowlands and the decline will continue further. That should tell you something.

Like I want the game to be good again! That’s all I want. It could happen with SL as it seems the devs are at least listening to players’ feedback and making changes here and there. Hopefully SL fixes all of this slot machine and time-gating madness.

They’d ban you, their developers don’t like addons. Especially ones that breed toxicity. Based on my experience in that game it made the player base less likely to lose their sanity and more willing to help.

It’s funny, though. Taking time out of your life to talk in a game’s forums about how the game is dying. Think you’re far better off using that time to instead find a new game you don’t hate so much. Although, maybe you’ve made a hobby of being unhappy.

Interesting. Thanks for the explanation. I don’t know enough about the game to say for sure, but at face value it doesn’t seem like a good thing to not be able to hold people accountable for their performance.
