Trying to find accurate census for wow realms

anyone: I am trying to start a character on a high population horde realm, with a specific name for my toon. so i am trying out many servers until I get the name i want with my created character. When i went to wow census sites, several of them seemed very outdated. One that seemed relevant said The FOrgotten Coast has a total of 3,400 toons alliance and horde combined, and a total of 9k toons with the server merged into several others. I was pretty shocked how low that seems to be, but the offocial WOW realm site lists it as a “full server” which is a real discrepancy. I have toons on Stormrage US, and that seems pretty full with a good AH economy. From what I have seen, everyone is just cramming on a total of 10 large servers, like Area 52, Stormrage, Tychondrius… and the rest have 1/2 the population of even less than half, at best. Anyone have the lowdown on how to invest a toon in a server… I need accuracy, either my word of mouth or by a recommended site. Thanks!

EDIT: just giving an update: Both Area 52 and places like Forgotten Coast are listed as “full servers”. This is a lie. Area 52 is a full server: people everywhere running around, massive population, busy trade chat, flooded AH… The Forgotten Coast ( though merged with several other servers) is completely desolate. Literally, not a SINGLE person talking in trade. Silent radio waves everywhere you go. No people in Oggrimmar, maybe ONE person running here and there. And none from Forgotten coast, just Bleeding Hollow if there is anyone. When I talked about it in trade chat, someone out there somewhere said" yeah, I’ve been gone from wow 7 years, just came back and wow is really dead" and I had to CONVINCE him that, no, blizzard is just hiding real census and actually there ARE communities out there, you just have to find the ones that are listed as “full” as actually being full. Why is blizzard hiding the servers that are actually populated? Is it to hide their true subs? Why did it take me three days of digging and also going to servers to actually find out where there are people? It’s really, really weird. Something shady is going on…

There is going to be no accurate census atm as they are in the process of merging realms.

oh, I thought that was over. But do you know any word of mouth facts or good horde/alliance servers that are not the famous ones? Or good census sites?

I’m on bleeding hollow. It’s pretty horde heavy. So is Zul’jin. It’s harder to tell because realmpop is ded. Depends what kinda end game content you wanna do

Note: Zul’jin is Quebecois heavy

Thrall is another horde-heavy full server.

It might be over, I’m not sure. I doubt there are any population updates yet. WoW Progress is pretty telling. It’s not really a site dedicated to wow populations but you can look at all the us realms and get a relative idea of population compared to other servers, along with horde or alliance bias.

The big 3 Horde servers are:
Area 52
Illidan
Thrall

The big 3 Alliance servers are:
Stormrage
Sargeras
Proudmoore

Medium Horde:
Tichondrius
Zul’jin
Mal’Ganis

Medium Alliance:
Dalaran
Kel’Thuzad
Lightbringer

This is US realms only and I excluded any oceanic, Brazilian or RP realms.

I just made a horde toon on the forgotten coast. Wow site lists it as a FULL server. I go there: ghost town. no human beings anywhere. alliance AND horde

There used to be reliable population sites, like realmpop, but Blizz changed its system so sites like that could no longer gather reliable data.

Thats why you can’t find current information.

AFAIK it is, however Blizz has gone out of their way to make getting any sort of census impossible. The best you can do is used content specific census mechanisms like the one on raider(dot)io or wowprogress

A friend of mine just moved his Hordies to Thrall and loves it. Great economy he says. Better prices for Jaina mount runs then on Stormrage.

Most of my Alliance guys are on there, I can attest to it being very Horde dominant.

Zul’jin is decently populated but be prepared to feel the need to learn some French. It was actually fun to learn a bit so I could communicate better with some guildies, but I know that can be frustrating to some people.

Keep in mind that populations are split since warmode is a separate shard.

Just play on area 52 for horde and stormrage for alliance
