Trying to farm and quest as a healer

i want to play a healer but i’m thinking of trying to farm as an hpally or holy priest and it sounds like a nightmare, and i don’t think i’ll really have time to level a farming alt or try and get dps gear as an off spec, and changing specs costs a pretty penny every time.

how did healers do it back in the day? should i just say oh well and play a mage?

also, hpally or holy priest for pvp?

In TBC, my go-to farming character was my resto druid. pull 10-12 mobs, stack hots, and hurricane.

But in vanilla, I farmed for my resto druid and prot warrior with a hunter. Easier to get a 2nd character to 60 and farm with it than to try to farm with a healer/tank.

My friends spec’d SPriest or RetPally for leveling if I recall correctly. I leveled as, and stayed in, balance spec from then til now.

Easy mode as a druid.

FOr a pally it’s not that bad tbh, holy doesn’t require that you go deep into the tree for the tasty stuff needed for raids so your other points can go into ret.

As for priests i’m sure theres a disc/holy hybrid build that is decent for farming/questing.

My advice for any MS healer is to make friends with a solid dps.

It is a nightmare and only masochists did it. Priests level as shadow and respec. Paladins level ret or prot/farm then respec, and druids level feral then respec.

Getting off spec dps gear really isnt that hard. Also healers are always desirable in PvP. I use to love running around with a really good dps and just healboting them while they killed everyone insight.

I leveled my hunter in 1/3 the game time it took to level my resto druid. You don’t even have to get them all the way to 60 to be a farming toon.

There is no need to place a single talent point into a healing based skill tree until you hit 60. You can heal any dungeon up to deep BRD and above with just your base skills. This is for any healing class.

Or balance. I’ve leveled as restaurant before too. It’s really not that hard as resto.

I leveled my priest as shadow and plan to do so again, it blasts through mobs and wrecks stuff.

As for farming gold, I plan to have a mage to AoE farm stuff and have gathering skills on my priest to make $$$ :slight_smile:

I never had a problem with respec after I bought all my epic mounts way back when.

Well, normally if you’re a healer you’ll have some one to farm with my priest friend who only play’s healers had plenty of people who loved to farm with her, every time i was off trying to gear like 2 healers and she wanted to farm fel-cloth or something she’d have like 4 people who offered to tag a long.

Having a healer cuts down time by a ton, also priest actually can get some medi-core dps with say MC + gear, Benediction = a dps staff comes to mind as well. Part of being a healer is networking, so assuming you’re just going to play as a healer you’ll have friends who don’t mind farming with you for a few hours, if you don’t well…

What the hell are you doing and who are you healing? Also it depends on the PVP and people you play with, i’d go with priest since i feel they’re much more versatile + Mind-control is the bomb.

I mean a priest wand is great, or just get a holy pally friend to farm with you and do like 2k+ smite dmg cus of judgement of light huehueh.

I was a holy priest in Vanilla. You don’t do a lot of damage but you’re basically immortal so you can grind everything down. I mostly gathered when I farmed, but I didn’t have to actually farm that much since my guild was happy to provide everything I needed for dungeons and raids. I spent almost all my time running dungeons when I wasn’t raiding.

With a pally, you can go 31/0/20. You’ll miss out on kings but you can switch to some DPS gear or at least a good 2-hander and use seal of command and ret aura or pick up improved SoR in the Holy tree and use that.

With a priest, you can easily grab searing light in the holy tree and just holy fire/smite spam. Add in a SW:P too. It’s not as efficient as a DPS spec but it’s actually not that bad.

With Druids you can actually just spec balance with or without moonkin form (34/0/13 with 4 wherever). You get most of the same healing talents anyways and can dps.

I’m not familiar enough with a shaman to really help on that.

I once levelled 1-60 as a resto shaman on a pserver
it really makes you appreciate searing totem and flametongue weapon

anyway, farming isn’t so amazingly bad as a resto shaman, and holy priests aren’t awful dps; they’re actually okay for solo dps with smite spam and a PW:S->holy fire->SW:P opener

I also once leveled a priest to the 50s as holy/disc on a pserver; I may have also had mind flay, but I don’t remember

ahem… holy paladin has more direct damage attacks then ret, I actually found holy to kill mobs faster back in classic.
