Nope, not quitting. Its a free trial, so I figured id look at it. I love the character customization, even if the characters are a bit weird. (And the males just look so dorky. Where are the giant dudes with the large swords typical in anime. Like Fist of the North Star)
Any who, it’s different. No voice actors. All text. And its free with out a time limit.
There are certain quests during A Realm Reborn that have voice acting and it usually doesn’t ramp up until the low-mid 30’s.
Plays like a single player game so far. But ive only done the intro and the first quest
I can’t stress enough that you need to stick with it. I just finished shadowbringers post MSQ and I’m just blown away by the production value in this game. I’ve been playing ffxiv on and off for years and I regret not sticking with it. Please do.
I tried it out once. Idk if it was the way the map was starting out, the character movments, or u could only fly in certain places or what. But i just couldnt get into it. Maybe i wasnt playing it right. Combat was decent though.
You can play both games. I do. I just play whatever one has better content more, and right now that’s FFXIV.
The game ramps up voice acting in its first expansion. Right now you’re playing through the Classic/Outland experience of FFXIV.
Honestly, I’d suggest a boost to Heavensward if you can afford it. It’s like $12? A Realm Reborn is a pretty horrible experience for the first half of it and the last bit of it if you wade through the patches before its first expansion, IMO.
The boosts in this game are really neat, too. It gives you a book that allows you to just watch all the cutscenes and important story bits in your apartment, and you get a feature called New Game + if you wish to replay anything.
But if you choose to slog through ARR like I did, know that it never gets worse. The game only continuously improves as you play it.
Honestly, it’s amazing this game is as popular as it is, given how absolutely terrible the introduction to it is.

Well, then you would probably play a Highlander male, that is the most typical giant dude in anime.
You will get giant swords when you reach Heavensward and become a Dark Knight.
