I don’t even care about the min/max or cookie cutter stuff. I just want to be able to have more talents as I level up. I feel like my character hasn’t grown at all since WoD because that was the last time I got a new talent choice and everything else since then has been temporary power gains that got replaced in the next expansion. Legion added nothing to our characters. BfA added nothing to our characters. SL added nothing to our characters. There were class changes that are typical for expansions, yes, but no permanent growth like unlocking a new class ability while leveling up and certainly no new talent rows. I’m hoping that sense of permanent progression comes back with these trees, but unfortunately that won’t be known until the expansion after Dragonflight.
It doesnt have much of an impact for me personally, im well aware ill treat it the same way i always have. There is always an optimal route, this isnt playable content its just the thing i need to make my character able to do the playable content. My only real issue is blizz hasnt proven to be able to balance our current really simple talent trees, its likely to be a hot mess balance wise for a long while. Id be shocked if it goes smooth.
Well, at the end of the day, if Talent A is going to be even something as small as a 1% DPS increase over Talent B, then expect a cookie cutter build that 90% of the Mythic raiders are going to pick.
I originally felt the MoP system was better, but as time has gone on, I’ve realized that no matter if it’s six or seven talents with three choices each, or a tree with 70 points, there will ALWAYS be a cookie cutter build with a minimal amount of freedom if the high end players have a say in matters.
All that being said, I’ll gladly take a modern revamp/return to talent trees if it means borrowed power systems and AP are being tossed.
Happy Happy Joy Joy!
Now if they would only add the other 2 things on my personal wish list…
-
Loosen faction grouping restrictions for non-instanced game play. (I’d love to be able to quest, run amok, and rp cross faction and not have to add randos to my battle-tag list.) (not that I mind temp-adding randos, but it might be weird, awkward, and inconvenient.)
-
Character customization options for hybrid races. i.e. Half Orc/Draenei/Ogre, and Half Elf variants.
Almost forgot:
- Ogres for Horde ( they can use the Kul Tiran rig for it),
and Vry Kul for Alliance ( They can just use a Kul Tiran-sized standard Human model and just invent a new Vry Kul tribe and make them playable. Since Kul Tirans are a bit taller than standard Humans.)
( They can both have some kind of stomp or knock-back racial? )
Cash Shop.
Talent points would be given with leveling like it always has been, wouldn’t it?
…and Oh, Hells to the No cash shop thing!
Yes they confirmed you’ll be getting a talent every level and they will alternate between the two trees.
I’m happy I’ll be able to progress my character power while leveling and not 95% of it at endgame while grinding AP or whatever.
