Trouble holding threat as Vengeance

As the title says, I’ve been having a pretty rough time holding threat lately especially this tier. I’ve played VDH since mid-Tomb of Sargeras and and I know everyone’s class generally goes through their ups and downs but I can’t tell if I’m in that spot or if I’m just missing something else entirely.

To be fair the latest buffs to tank threat generation has helped a little bit with pulling off of DPS/healers. Before last week I had a couple of DPS in my raid get targeted by adds before I could reach them and straight up taunting and even Throw Glaive, which literally states in the tooltip that it generates high threat, was not enough to pull the target off of them. Taunting is the obvious solution but in some instances like Vigilant Guardian there are several adds at a time that I wasn’t able to snap aggro when a single taunt on CD wasn’t enough.

Anyway, the recent buff had made snap aggro possible now (at least it feels like it) but the issue that has been present since the start of this tier and is still very apparent and frustrating is the threat generation difference between me and the other tank in our raid. Our gear is relatively similar so I would assume item level difference isn’t the issue (his character is named Bubbletruble-Kael’thas if anyone would like to pull up his armory for comparison) but ever since he made the switch from Kyrian to Venthyr and increased his burst with Ashen Hollow it’s been especially frustrating constantly losing aggro at some of the worst moments.

One of my biggest frustrations is that it seems like on some bosses (if not all) whenever we switch and I taunt off him, immediately after the switch I see the “losing threat” prompt off the boss and am not sure what’s causing that. The other more understandable but equally annoying instance is when he puts down his Ashen Hollow. I’ve noticed that constantly slashing away at the boss with my basic Fracture and Shear is just enough to hold onto the boss, but I guess Fel Devastation generates very little threat at least compared to the other tank because it almost never fails that if I try to cast Fel Dev during his Ashen Hollow burst I’ll lose aggro to him. This has happened very often to Rygelon on pull but most notably on the Anduin encounter, the intermission with the Remnant add that hits pretty hard, I try to maximize defense which includes using Fel Dev but that’s gotten my other tank killed when I lose aggro and he gets hit a second time with Soul Reaper.

tl;dr is Vengeance currently in a bad spot with threat generation (especially compared to other tanks), or does it sound more like I’m missing something when it seems like even taunting and Throw Glaive do very little? I’m open to suggestions, I just have no clue what else I can do to at this point.

Ive had that issue at the start of patch, amd to solve it i just macro a /p give me sec to group up stuff. It usually works, like the havoc doesnt have the frontload dmge anymore with the hunt/korayn and there are many classes that ramp now, surv is high dps but it has misdirection and feign death. Just let your group know to give you a sec to group up adds

Yes, thank you!! I’ve been tanking since DH’s were released and it’s never been this impossible. lmao Torment just flat out does not work. I think there’s some kind of scaling issue going on here…

there is also currently a bug on sigil of flame. It doesn’t generate any threat whatsoever until it’s 1st tic of fire damage. so the initial hit does damage but for whatever reason generates exactly zero threat. So it makes setting up pulls a bit more exciting.

I did not know this…hmm

It generates threat as long as your in combat. But out of combat zero threat.

so as an initial pull it will go off do damage and put you in combat but that initial hit won’t generate threat. so stuff will initially come after you since you started combat. but any amount of threat from anyone before you hit them with something else will pull aggro

Heroic Queen on my DH tank I have this issue. I co tank with a warrior though. At the start we pull like normal with him taking the boss first. He takes the liquify so I taunt and need to get the boss out of the puddle on the ground so I vault.

The reason I vault is because my raid group is saying I need to get the boss far away from the puddle. The queen slowly walks toward me while I need to pop def for feast. in that 3 second window the warrior pulls threat back with endless rage easily. I’ve also tried without vaulting and I’m told the boss is not moving far enough away. Since I’m moving the boss, fel dev stand in place and sneeze doesn’t help with movement and I do need it for def on some of the feast.

I pretty much need to stay on the boss to keep threat rolling and keep the debuffs active. Meta gets me through the first feast but the second is rough.

The whole situation would be easier if I produced more threat.

ideally, you start combat with taunt before sigil pops so you an get the threat

post a log, your likely not doing enoguh damage to keep threat

Seen a few classes tanks have a little agro issue since patch

ya can most tank players dont like to do damage

and damage is tied directly to threat

Just Throw Glaive before using Sigil of Flame to get the pack in combat and this will stop happening to you on pull.
