Trip to Disneyworld in spring 2022 worth it?

Here’s a random one. I was considering planning a trip now for Spring 2022 to go to Disney World with my wife, kids, who are both under 5, and parents, who are in their 70s/80s. However I was a little worried and having second thoughts because of covid and other things, both due to risks and/or the restrictions making it feel not as fun.

Would you plan such a trip and/or has anybody gone to Disney world in the past 6 months who has a perspective?

I’m not really a fan of Disney but I’ve been to Universal Studios and Six Flags about 10 times (combined, not each) since they eased the Covid lockdowns, and it seems super safe to me. As long as you’re vaccinated, what’s there to worry about?

I would not.

heretodie if you don’t mind me asking can you elaborate more? why would you not?

If you want to get Covid since they have their crazy governor in florida.

I’m in NYC and see a lot of people still walking around with masks, frequently getting covid tested, etc. I am still hesitant to go to movie theaters and would not want to be on an airplane for now.

It might be completely safe. I just would not, personally. 70+, kids too young for vaccination also not ideal imo. But after typing that last sentence, I think this is bait. :open_mouth:

Personally, I would rather go camping, fishing and making better memories with my family than go to a soul less theme park. Long lines, terrible pricing, and quite frank, disney is a terrible company.

I wouldn’t. I would rather spend my vacation time and money renting a cabin in the woods. I hate large crowds and I hate people. Plus with Covid still around infecting people I would stay away from crowds. Covid isn’t going to stop until it burns through the whole population. People will not listen.

Covid isn’t going away ever. Just get vaccinated, booster shots every 6 months and then there’s no need to worry about it

I have not been to Disney since the pandemic hit, but I WOULD recommend that you go when your kids are slightly older.

I say this because it costs a LOT of money to go to Disney World, and you want your kids to be old enough to fully enjoy it…and most importantly, you want them to REMEMBER that trip. It really is magical for them.

I’d say 8-12 is the perfect age for taking them on a first Disney trip but that’s obviously just my opinion. Cheers and best wishes, whatever you decide.

Doesn’t Disney steal your soul or something?

I’ve only been to Disney world in 1979, when Space Mountain was their latest greatest ride. Closest I’ve been back was 2011 at Downtown Disney (Disney Springs now) for my 20th high school reunion

Florida is a cesspit and anyone willing to travel there is goofy.

I say go just not in spring. I am originally from Orlando. I grew up going every week. However go in February if you can even if you have to pull the kids from school. Ill explain why in a min

I live in Western NC now but I have almost always had an annual pass because my folks live in Orlando. However lately I have been using a friends comp tickets he gives me since hes a manager at one of the Disney Hotels. I drive down to visit them and visit them and Disney every 3 months. Maybe its just bec I grew up in Orlando but I love it. Covid wise out of all parks disney will be the cleanest. Id worry more about touching stuff on the airplane and airport than Disney lol

As I said above. DO NOT go in spring. Go in Feb if you can crowds will be 70-80% less in Feb. Tickets are also cheaper by quite a bit in Feb. Its a dead period after Christmas and before the spring rush. Normally in Feb you can almost walk onto every ride. Early February will be mostly locals. Its when all the Floridians go. That and early September right after kids go back to school are basically dead times. Its why I try VERY hard to always go at those two times of year

Due to spring break and summer break shortly after its like going on xmas in spring and summer. Its when ALL the tourist go from all over the world. Just dont do it.

Out of the entire year Jan 8th- Feb 11th is one of the best times of year to go its also a dead period for most tourist travel in general. Also if you can go by train stead of by plane

As a Disney fanatic…

I do know masks are only being required to be worn on the rides and whenever you’re indoors (this includes rides with lines that go indoors, unless you’re eating, ofc). Vloggers I’ve seen that are going to the parks, during this time, have NOT been abiding by any kind of 6 ft rule. Your elderly parents are at risk because they fit the demograph of catching covid. It is, OFC, up to them, if they’re willing to expose themselves.

You do NOT need to use the free Genie app nor the paid versions (Genie+/Lightning Lanes), in order to plan your day, how you want. Planning your trip has remained the same, as it’s always been. Always ride the more popular rides in the morning (at park open, get there early). Then, ride the less popular rides (filler rides), during peak hours. Unless, you don’t mind either waiting in line, utilizing Single Rider lines or coughing up money to use Lightning Lane, to bypass the stand-by ques (which those slots may not always be available, either, during the time you want to ride said ride, FYI).

The free Genie App isn’t all that bad, IMO, but it will NOT help you avoid long lines. You can always swap out the recommendations it gives you for different rides, with lesser ques but (like with leveling guides) is just a recommendation, and you do NOT have to follow it, to a T. The way the free app is set-up is to divide out your time for you to be in the park, as long as possible. Don’t do that. Take its “recommendations” with a grain of salt.

The parks have not changed, as far as long lines goes. Always ride the popular rides, as early as possible, before peak hours (which is usually, keyword, between 11am-3pm) then ride all the filler rides, in between.

I highly suggest visiting the Animal Kingdom and get all the Avatar rides out of the way, in the morning, as the rest of the park (outside of Avatar) will have tolerable wait times of 30 minutes or less. It’s a great park to be at ease at. Lots of animals to look at, with the kids, and the safari ride is a nice long ride, to relax and enjoy yourself.

Magic Kingdom requires the most planning, since there are a lot of fun rides that obtain high ques really quickly. Such as the Haunted Mansion, Peter Plan’s Flight, Space Mountain, etc.

If you and your family, don’t mind splitting up, Single Rider lines are available (and FREE), for certain attractions: https://allears.net/walt-disney-worlds-single-rider-line/. Disneyland has more Single Rider Line availability than Disney World, then again Disney World is a lot bigger than Disneyland, so LOL

Always plan which rides, shows, restaurants, etc. are your must dos and go from there. The free Genie app can help plan out your day, but it will never advise you nor update when something is too long of a wait, broken down, cancelled, etc. The app is a good start, but don’t forget to use some of that critical thinking :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Hope this helps :slightly_smiling_face:

Being single with no kids I would not plan a trip like that. If I had kids I still would probably not go because of the cost.

I have a trip coming up in April of 2022 with three generations of my family gathering in San Diego. Two of those generations are vaccinated.

We are limiting our exposure to large areas. A trip for generation 1’s tour of the U.S.S. Midway where he served during the Vietnam war as a corpsman. A day long trip to generation 2’s (this is mine) to Port Hueneme for a tour through the U.S.N. Seabee Museum…“Can Do”, with a family gathering back in San Diego for a controlled trip through the Zoo.
