Trinket Updates - March 21

On Friday, March 21 at 3:00 p.m. PDT, we implemented hotfixes to improve many Season 2 trinkets. Most of these were cases where damage effects have not kept up with their stat competition as we intended them to.

Items and Rewards

  • Increased the damage effects of most Season 2 trinkets by 20%.
    • This increase was applied to Junkmaestro’s Mega Magnet, Flarendo’s Pilot Light, Geargrinder’s Spare Keys, Mister Lock-N-Stalk, Zee’s Thug Hotline, Torq’s Big Red Button, Vexie’s Pit Whistle, and Chromebustible Bomb Suit.
    • This increase was applied to Candle Confidant, Siphoning Lightbrand, Blastmaster3000, Ratfang Toxin, Noggenfogger Ultimate Deluxe, Turbo-Drain 5000, Papa’s Prized Putter, Bashful Book, Ominous Oil Residue, and Goo-blin Grenade.
    • This increase was applied to Ravenous Honey Buzzer, Conductor’s Wax Whistle, Remnant of Darkness, Bursting Lightshard, Voltaic Stormcaller, Charged Stormrook Plume, Sigil of Algari Concordance, Ringing Ritual Mud, Gigazap’s Zap-Cap, Grim Codex, Viscera of Coalesced Hatred, K.U.-J.O.'s Flame Vents, and Razdunk’s Big Red Button.
  • Mister Pick-Me-Up healing reduced by 10%.
  • Tome of Light’s Devotion damage effect no longer triggers for non-tank specializations.
  • Viscera of Coalesced Hatred damage now reduced for tank specializations.

Our goal with these changes is to increase the number of viable options across the trinket pool for the season. You’ll find them listed, along with other changes, in our next Hotfixes Update.

No change to the amorphous delve trinket that keeps popping up in my loot?

So the scrapbot trinket is still pretty terrible? Darn, I was holding out hope.

Jesus, no wonder nothing but trinkets ever drop. With that many, mostly useless, trinkets in the loot tables it is a wonder anyone ever sees actual gear drop.

Problem is that many of these trinkets needed a 200% buff not 20.

For many of these trinkets – especially the Delve ones – this is far too small a buff. Hopefully you guys aren’t done.

Scrapheal also appears to be missing here. Unfortunate.

Blizzard please, this trinket is on my wishlist to spend my dinar on in 11.5.

As far as my best Delve Trinkets for my classes/specs I regularly play with according to WoWhead:

Prot Pally:
S-Tier = 0
A-Tier = 0
B-Tier = 4 (Funhouse Lens, Amorphous Relic, Ratfang Toxin & Suspicious Energy Drink)

Demo Lock:
S-Tier = 0
A-Tier = 0
B-Tier = 2 (Funhouse Lens and Candle Confident)

UDK:
S-Tier = 0
A-Tier = 4 (Mechano-Core Amplifier, Funhouse Lens, Suspicious Energy Drink & Shadow-Binding Ritual Knife)
B-Tier = 2 (Sturdy Deepflayer Scute & Smoldering Howler Horn)

Fury Warrior:
S-Tier = 0
A-Tier = 1 (Mechano-Core Amplifier)
B-Tier = 2 (Noggenfogger Ultimate Deluxe & Suspicious Energy Drink)

BM Hunter:
S-Tier = 0
A-Tier = (Mechno-Core Amplifier)
A- Tier = (Suspicious Energy Drink & Funhouse Lens)
B-Tier = 0

Generally, most of the Delve Trinkets imo are that of A-B tier which is pretty standard if you’re looking to gear mainly from Delves, however, Raid and Mythic Plus trinkets usually fare as Best in Slot (BiS) over most Delve Trinkets anyway.

Mechcano-Core Amplifier is a very good Delve Trinket and I can see if some Raid or Mythic+ players use it while it provides exceptional “Equip” procs for a Secondary stat boost.

Although while many of the Delve trinkets are in the A-B Tier category just as the same as Raid and Mythic+, most of them do not necessarily need tuning to be in line or just above Mythic+ balance. This would remove the BiS “chase” from M+ and turn players to Delves as BiS “alternatives” which currently Delves would be the more logical choice for secondary alternatives. Sure, some Delve trinkets might be better for that players class/spec instead of that Mythic+ trinket, it’s all based on personal preference especially if that player is chasing pure BiS items for their class/spec.

If you view your class/spec on WoWhead: Classes > Spec > click on BiS Gear > Trinkets (click on Mythic+ and Delves icon) you will see that BOTH Mythic+ and Delves have trinkets in the same Tier category. Does this mean that the Mythic+ or Delves are better than each other? Not necessarily, although, the BiS Gear for that class/spec and Talent Build also plays a factor since BiS is subjective based on sims for your character.

There are more changes to the Raid and Mythic+ trinkets as per the blue post over Delve trinkets which is a “good” thing to be honest. Increasing the potency on more Delve trinkets to be inline with BiS Raid or Mythic+ trinkets would upset that crowd since Delves are not meant to reward BiS outside of Delve gear which Blizzard has mentioned (unless you’re keeping your character geared through Delve gear only) over Raid and Mythic+. It wouldn’t sit well with those content enjoyers. It would only advocate for players to decrease the reward value even further of Delve gear to be less in line with Raid and Mythic+ (which it already is anyway).

Just be aware, Blizzard is being VERY careful tuning Delve trinkets so they’re not overperforming above Raid and Mythic+. They’re not trying to make a big mistake by promoting the “torch and pitchfork” crowd to take up arms and burn the forums down while trying to dismantle Delves as they trying to already.

It’s a sad day when data shows a number of trinkets need 20% improvements.

Meanwhile my 626 Spymaster’s Web and 645 Power Suit Core are beating multiple 658 trinkets (including raid ones). That’s not good. Half the trinkets don’t need to be buffed, they need to be deleted out of the table entirely.

Candle Confidant was crazy last season, that 20% buff will be welcomed by any caster DPS spec.

Does this apply to Suspicious Energy Drink? Had gotten it last night.

Indeed!! That trinket is great! And Demo Locks are receiving All damage increased by 3%.

No, that one is actually okay. Aside from Amorphous, the issue mostly applies to trinkets that do direct damage and healing.

Examples are Bashful Book and the putter. They could stand to be buffed by 100% or more.

No, engy is a good passive trinket. There need to be more of those, especially in dungeons & raid.

Almost anything that deals direct damage is unbelievably useless.

I see.

I was vibing more with the trinkets on the healer loot table in S1. The options I have now I’m not too crazy about lol.

Ugh I miss Fungal Flute. :face_exhaling:

No disagreement there, I hate active trinkets. :joy:

Funhouse is nice but meh to me.

Amorphous just needs some passive stats or shorten the gap of it being useless. The 30 sec duration and buffs it gives are quite strong otherwise. The biggest problem is that you can’t have 30 seconds of it being NOTHING on a rotation.

I don’t agree with the deletion portion of that statement. Just because some of those trinkets are D/F-Tier on some classes/specs, they’re A/B-Tier for others. It’s class/spec and Talent Build dependent. Some are great for ST others for AoE. Just the same for Raid and Mythic+ Trinkets.

You’re going to loot Delve only trinkets if you just do Delves and they can show up in the Great Vault as well. If you’re not chasing Delve trinkets and focusing on BiS trinkets from M+ or Raid as your main source for gearing your character, you’re already better off than a Delver who’s gearing Delves exclusively by a long shot to include the longevity of Season 2.

That’s not even true.

Again, 645 Power Core (delve/world) is beating a 658 Flarendo’s (heroic raid).

Balance is just straight up F’d.

And the biggest offenders are almost always the ones that do direct damage because a flat number is going to scale like crap vs stats going up. Then there’s Amorphous Relic that’s it’s own entire category of useless.

Poor Ikiss would be rolling over in his grave at this season’s trinkets quality.
