Its really needed, spamming shadow mend in dungeons half the time isn’t fun.
Someday maybe they’ll add some talent options that let atonement in 5 mans function in a way that isn’t handicapped because of raid balance.
My suggestion would be to replace Lenience with a new 5 man talent:
Quintinity – same as PvP Trinity (possibly dropping the crit mechanic if it’s over the top) but with a hard cap of 5 atonements.
I suggested that in beta too though so I guess they didn’t like it!
I like trinity, But i can also see that once having got that, people will cry about atonement only being by pws and why cant it be with shadow mend too or they will want this or that. But its a good talent.
Atonement healing just feels so weak for me. And the only viable build we have really I. Raids is running SS.
in keys we were never supposed to rely on atonement healing. In raids the old evang playstyle is still strong. Not as strong as SS but still works. In our raid team we have 2 disc. He uses SS i dont. SS took him from 3-4 on heals to top. Worked well really to balance the healing team out more
So we just spam shadow mend? There’s no way.
You don’t just spam shadowmend, but you do have to spam it a lot. It would be busted if disc could just atonement heal the entire time.
The key is realizing when you can atonement burst heal, and timing that correctly in the fight. Getting to the skill floor in disc is all about becoming more discerning with your atonement timings.
You can do good atonement burst in keys when you have mindgames/mindblast/solace up (assuming you’re running ToF instead of Schism). You can do decent atonement burst with just mind blast and solace. Save those windows for the really hard AoE burst.
Essentially it goes like this:
Light Damage-> Atonement with dot spreading, smite and penance
Medium Damage-> Shadowmend triage
High AoE Damage-> Atonement burst ramp, mixed with shadowmend triage
Also make sure you’re using your CDs liberally. Disc is all about being proactive with these things, not reactive. If you feel like the pull might be tricky, or you get slightly sketched/spooked, just pop rapture/barrier/psup. Better to waste it early than use it late.
Also if you try to react with your atonement burst you’re gonna have a bad time. If you don’t have atonements out and everyone gets chunked just start shadowmend spamming. The group will die if you try to atonement at that point. Once you’ve got atonements up you can then do your burst, but don’t waste time trying to bubble or radiance into burst combo.
This is coming from a disc who’s just passed the skill floor in keys though. I’m no where near the skill ceiling. Could be that better discs can atonement more. But I can’t yet.
I’ve been playing disc for a while, Didn’t main it in BFA, but i just feel like we are really missing something. I feel like if we got trinity base lined we could compete more in Dungeons. Compared to Druids and Shammy’s that is
We do compete on dungeons.
What is lacking is often knowledge. Of the proper way to play the spec, when to use what cds. tanks knowledge of what they can take in keys and when to use their cds and dps learning when to use their cds and dont stand in damage.
Even this thread shows people are struggling to adapt to the playstyle because instead of learning as is, they want to change it to suit the playstyle they think they might be able to play.
To me it’s not hard to play. It just feels like we have to try waaaay harder than the other healers. I love playing disc
Yes we do. Its been that way since legion. Its one of the things i enjoy. You have to work harder for the same results that another healing class would find easier. Nothing new there with disc
On the other side when you have mastered disc and play another healer you are like wow this is easy.
Disc needs a way to convert atonements to HoTs after combat ends and or buff our shields. they’re a glorified Plea. Which wasn’t a fun spell. If Holy had better through put (I’m talking pvp), it would be the best spec for healing and feel like old school disc. <3
