Tried SV hunter.... I just want to know why?

A rogue ranged spec wouldn’t be a bad idea. Melee mage and lock is just far too contrary to the fantasy of the class. If you made a melee mage, it simply isn’t a mage any more, it’s now a spellsword which is a different class entirely. Also it’s a question of thematics and identity. All 3 mage specs and warlock specs have a clear theme. The line between marksman and survival was far more blurry. The same could be said for Assassination and Subtlety however and frankly I’d support making one a ranged spec.

It’s true and weird and I loved old survival but hey new survival is still the most fun I’ve ever had in recent years.

Well. That, Resto Shaman in Legion with Burst of Wind and also Feral Druid

Yeah it sucks. My first time ever raiding was Naxx in wotlk as a survival hunter and it was the coolest spec in the game imo. I was pretty pissed when they reworked it in Legion.

that sounds awesome

Melee Hunter is something we’ve seen from NPCs in-game, and Survival has always had the most melee tools of the Hunter specs (its just that the game moved away from the whole deadzone thing since then).

If Blizzard wanted a melee Hunter spec, it was always going to be Survival.

That aside, at the time of the change, BM and Survival might as well have been the same spec. Sure, they came with their… 2 key abilities each. But you know how those key abilities changed the playstyle of the class?

… You swapped the 2 abilities for the spec you’re currently playing into the exact same spots on your actionbar and hit them at the exact same time as you would with the other spec.

They weren’t the same abilities, no, but they fit into the rotation in the exact same way, and everything surrounding those buttons was the same.

Hunter was a spec that needed some diversifying.
Same for Rogues, hence Outlaw, as much as some people are still upset about it.

Melee surv > ranged surv.

Give Warriors the ranged weapon slot back. Nothing pleased me more than to have a great bow drop in front of a Hunter and put in my stat stick slot.

Because “a lot of people” turned out to be very little in actuality. It was very generic and boring, MM and BM overshadowed surv ranged so they made it melee.

that’s because it’s already a profession.

Wailing Arrow is not Black Arrow
Effect nothing like each other.
Black arrow has been a dead Ability for years
MM inherited NONE of RSV Abilities

Why? Because it was too similar to BM.

Respeccing felt like replacing KC with ES and I don’t think Blizz liked that.

This has been a dead horse topic for sooo many years now.

and ranged survival was 100 times better than bm and mm combined. but yet they still changed it.

they did it solely because it was too good. too many players were stacked into that spec and the hunter class in general. i see what they did. i was there with my 52 hunters. all ranged survival. maybe i was part of the problem and they thought i was 52 players. and ranged survival was probably hands down the most mobile spec in the game. you know how i know this because i was the mechanic grunt in our top 100 us guild back in mop and wod. ranged survival hunters were the ones that would solo blackfuse belts and kite tanks and do all that side mechanics while still topping dps. thats how good ranged survival was. it made me look good.

your funny. ranged survival was nothing in the million light years like bm. nothing. they were night and day from each other. bm had basic physical attacks where the pet was your main source of damage.
ranged survival was a sustained dot master. there was no spec in the game even remotely close to resembling ranged survival. in fact it was the most unique polished spec in the game.

lol it was similar to bm. bahahaha

There are a lot of people who like current survival and the different playstyle it offers.

I’ve wondered this myself from time to time. Why take something that was popular and fun and turn it into the garbage “niche of a niche” spec. it is now. The world may never know.

Because if I’m going to sit in melee I’d rather do it as a Paladin, DK or Arms Warrior. All three have access to DPS/Tank roles. Paladin also has a heal spec. All three, being plate classes, seem sturdier than melee SV. Paladin and Warrior ditch the pet, so you don’t have a pet in the way when you try to loot. Plus no Pet AI bugs. For Paladin and DK you can quest in Prot/Blood. Which means you never die and don’t ever have to worry about over pulling. You can also solo group quests. (May take awhile.)

I tried melee SV for a year. Pretty much dropped Hunter after that. I keep this guy around because he’s my forum posting char.

I meant the Tinkerer thing everyone wants, but I really hate that name

survival is the most fun any hunter spec has been in years, and it’s barely a melee spec.

I actually picked hunter back in vanilla to have a 2h sword on my back and a tiger by my side
