Trick for pets not getting ran over in high delves? What pet are you using?

Title pretty much says it all, what pets are you using and what are you doing to keep them alive in high delves?

Heal them?

You haven’t soloed a tier 8 delve have you?

I’d say run turtle or clefthoof tbh

Maybe unrelated, but after coming back from a break it feels like I’m having a harder time getting pets to keep aggro, particularly on packs.

I’ve ran multiple T8s using Core Hound for final boss for lust and Stone Hound otherwise. They have a strong defensive and self revive but it’s a 8min CD. Between Packleader having 20% max health heal attached to Mend Pet, 20% damage reduction talent for Misdirection on your pet, and Mend Pet talent your pet isn’t dying if you’re paying attention

I run healer Brann and a Scalehide pet. The scalehide pets get a 50% dr every 12 seconds on a 1 minute cd and add in Misdirection + Growl + Brann potions and they tank really well and dont die unless i do something stupid. Been doing that at i566 T8s as a sv hunter with pl. 588 now. Just remember to use cc stuff like Intimidation, Implosion, Binding Shot, etc. for alt interrupts occasionally, we got the tools to deal with this comfortably.

Go survival and be packleader with a tank pet. The den recovery hero talent gets applied on every pet mend on top of the pet mend heal should make your pet a bit more tanky and hopefully live.

Every day. Like a routine now. I did mess up though. Something I have seen no posts on. Zevrik spawned in my delve. The chest he spawned at stunned me. So I couldn’t heal. He killed me. But still dropped a 610 item, a epic item for brann. And gave me a quest to kill him in his delve.

My pet is Brann. Ahem…I mean you can put Misdirection on Brann and let him tank everything.

Clefthoof and Gon as my secondary

Necro! But…

For BM hunters, the Clefthoof family is the number 1 family for tanking. That’s the family rhinos belong to, BTW. You can find more info on this family here.

Then for MM and SV hunters, the best possible tanking pet family is the Scalehide, as mentioned earlier. I’ve experimented with a few different families, and the Scalehide is head and shoulders above the rest. There’s a lot of neat options in the Scalehide family.

Grab the talent in the class tree that reduces the DMG your pet takes when you use misdirection. (Something like “No Hard Feelings.) Put points into the talent that buff your Mend Pet.

Use Brann’s potions accordingly. Don’t be shy to use the Hunter’s defensives — some of them apply to the pet, too.

It can take a little bit of practice, but once you get the hang of pet management, you can go a long way with your pets!

Tier 8 delves ought to be trivial at your gear level.

Clefthoof is best, but I just soloed three different tier 8s as BM with a Mechanical pet set to Tenacity.

The kind of pet doesn’t matter, whether ferocity or tenacity they do just fine.

What you need to remember to do is to make sure to run over brann potions, they heal both you and your Pet, they actually heal you pet for way more and apply a heal over time thats more powerful than mend pet. Make sure you know where he drops them and run over them periodically to keep your pet healthy. Keeping mend pet on cd helps but Branns potions can keep them up much easier.

Psst, this is a necroed thread. Season 1 T8 delves were more challenging.

I still decided to comment ‘cuz you never know who else would be reading the thread.

Even though the post was from Season 1, pet survivalbility still tends to be an issue in high Delves (or other World content for that matter). I would add that, since Blizzard nerfed pet damage reduction at the start of the expansion thereby making pets more suceptible to dying, it is a good idea to weave Mend Pet into the rotation and keep it on cooldown, as necessary.

I like to do this by using a single macro button that can:

Call Pet
Revive Pet
Mend Pet
Dismiss Pet (using modifier)

/use [@pet,dead]Revive Pet;[nopet]Call Pet 3;[pet,mod:shift] Dismiss Pet;Mend Pet

Gorilla and branilla.

this is what you do. go to throne of thunder and tame one of the quilen from the boss Iron Qon they are exotic beasts but if you have it summoned while you change specs the game for some reason will let you keep the quilen as ur active pet (last time i checked) so youll have a pet with * Stone Armor

  • Level 14 [hunter] [stone hound pet ability]
  • 2 min cooldown
  • [Instant]
  • When falling below 40% health, the Quilen’s skin will change to stone, causing it to take 40% less damage and regenerate 3% of its maximum health every 1 sec for 8 sec.

This effect can only occur once every 120 sec.
and

  • Eternal Guardian
  • [Hunter] [quilen pet ability]
  • 20 yd range
  • 8 min cooldown
  • [Instant]
  • When used, your pet will miraculously return to life with full health.
    with any hunter spec

I walked stright into 11s with my clefthoof and healer brann. I started the season at 638 ilvl. Just stay near branns pots and throw a mend pet if you see the clefthoof shield go up.

Its not hard… i dont even care how much i pull.
