Minor correction: it wasnât just depression, but rather an extremely advanced form of Lewy Body Dementia/Parkinsonâs. Depression is a symptom of it, sure, but the dementia he had was causing all sorts of neurological damage. Researchers and doctors said that his mind was basically falling apart; he was losing his memory at a rapid pace and near the end of his life became extremely paranoid and outright delusional.
What Robin Williams had was absolutely destroying his brain, to the point where him taking his own life was the best outcome for him and his family. This isnât me trying to glorify suicide or anything like that; his condition was just that bad. There was absolutely nothing anyone couldâve done for him to reverse or even halt the damage the LBD was causing, and if he were still with us today he wouldâve had absolutely no quality of life for well over half a decade by this point. His brain was basically in a similar state to what the absolute worst cases in professional boxing were despite him never suffering injuries like that.
