Oh My! I was thinking that since the very beginning of warcraft the horde has been looking for lumber so they go invade a forest and chop down some holy trees and piss everyone off right?
So why don’t the druids just grow the some trees to use as lumber…?

I always wondered where night elves got their lumber to build their buildings.
Like, do they just ‘ask permission’ from the trees or something?

Wisps actually assist with gathering wood from trees without harming the tree.
It’s part of the Night Elf resource gathering mechanic/lore from Warcraft 3.
Wisps are the main builder unit for Night Elves from the RTS, and they also have the fun ability to detonate. This kills the wisp, but also destroys 100 mana from anything in close proximity (really nasty considering most units only had 200 - 400 mana.) They also deal health damage equal to mana destroyed.
Which was why a bazillion wisps detonating in Archimonde’s face hurt so much.

As mentioned, Night Elves use Wisps to gather lumber for things
To be fair, I’m unsure how? They don’t damage the trees in any way and just absorb tree juice to use for whatever
In WC3 they grow structures from the ground and it just works out
There we have it. All WC3 Nightelf structures are made out of maple syrup.

“Wisps are forest spirits that heal ancients and keep the forest clean and pure. They are dedicated to the well-being of night elf forests. They are connected to the forest on a supernatural level rivaling that of Cenarius’ children; indeed, many believe that wisps often evolve into mighty ancient protectors and other creatures. Wisps play a major role in night elf life by creating and repairing their wooden structures. In addition to healing living wood with their mere touch, they can detonate themselves to banish or kill summoned monsters (such as any outsider, elemental, or several kinds of undead).”
