Seeing some conflicting arguments on Treant’s Bane for Enhance.
I know we traditionally want slow because WF/Flurry makes it faster and the upper end hits hard, but there’s a counter saying that due to the faster swing speed we see more flurries/crit/WF procs simply because we’re swinging more. I don’t think this applies widely to quick 2handers, just Treant’s due to the high Attack Power and Crit%.
For 1-39, you’d just want to slot highest DPS. With windfury, speed isn’t really a concern because a faster weapon would just get more procs. Higher DPS will still win.
The game changer comes at 40+ with stormstrike. This is a 100% weapon damage strike with its own separate CD. This skill dictates that you use the hardest hitting weapon available. A treant’s bane still isn’t bad for a fresh 60, but it has no future due to nightfall, which is the only 2h a shaman should be swinging in raids. Even outside raids, it’s useful to power up your own shocks. This weapon was literally made for orc enhancement shamans. Paladins don’t have axe skill, but humans already have skill for quel, thunderfury, sulfuras… they shouldn’t be complaining.
Armor is only physical. You need spell penetration for enemy magic resist. It’s very rare on gear in classic because it’s not an important stat. In raids, you’ll just use warlock curses to strip it off. Outside raids, most mobs don’t have any to begin with. Players have some, but it’s too little to matter unless they use an aura/totem to buff it up to 60+. If you have more penetration than the enemy has magic resist; the excess is simply wasted. Note that as a shaman, you can rip off mark of the wild, which in practice means you already have up to 27 spell penetration.
It’s trash.
Stay away from it.
EDIT: SHould be abit more detailed.
The weapon speed doesn’t really increase your windfury procs by a huge amount and the inferior weapon speed severely hampers the windfury damage contribution.
The crit + Ap is nice but not enough to make up the difference of 100-200 damage on non-crit windfury attacks.
25% of my damage comes from spell attacks, it’s not a huge difference and can be more than made up for by using a superior weapon.
i agree it sucks and is too expensive like most arcanite weapons due to inflation. However he asked WHY it would improve his shock damage I was simply explaining the proc
The debuff makes the target take more magic damage. Your spells are magic. In fact your entire class is magic except auto swings and the hit off stormstrike.
