I’m sure this question has been asked a bunch of times, but I am pretty new to the game, and there are a lot of abbreviations I’m not familiar with… I just reached level 40 and got Travel Form Rank 2. Plus I purchased Journeyman Riding which allows 100% mount speed.
So since i get 100% mount speed plus 40% travel form, coupled with Feline Swiftness +15% am i technically running at 165% or does that seem incorrect?
lol so things dont stack with travel form and those different speeds are in different states of travel form when you are in mount speed you cap at mount speed when you are in travel form speed aka in combat or in a pvp zone you are at 40% feline swiftness does not stack with travel form that i know of so no they are all separate things
So if I am just running along a path/road…no combat, no pvp, no anything… in travel form i’m technically only traveling at 100%, as if I was on a mount?
Correct. Travel form = current level of mount speed. Once you get flying, your travel form will allow you to fly at a speed of your highest rank of flying
Thank you! I just swear that travel form seems so much faster then my mount. I thought it was the additional 15% from feline swiftness. Maybe… it’s just the animations… Thanks!
Just the animations! There’s a nifty addon called dejacharacterstats that expands the stats you see in your character profile, including speed, if you wanted to check it out. If you go get Glyph of the Cheetah off the auction house, you’ll feel SUPER fast.
you can download an addon to display your current speed if you’re curious - I use ‘MonkeySpeed’ - but yes, generally speaking you’ll be running at the same speed as a land mount, or 200% of your regular unmounted speed.
Sometimes mounts will go a little faster (anywhere they pick up the guild bonus 10% mount speed, which we miss out on in travel form) until everything evens out again with zone buffs like pathfinder at max level, which is a 20% bonus and overwrites the 10% and actually applies to both mounts and travel form.
THE ONLY OTHER THING I MAY ADD IS THAT the speed is depending on when you activated it so if you activate travel then get into combat you stay at mount speed it only procs 40% if you are in a pvp zone like BGs or arena or you activate it after getting into combat it doesnt drop to 40 from mount speed mid running around
God yes. Flying Mount > all, and lvl 80 gives the 310 speed boost. I don’t know how long you’ll be able to maintain it in the old content (each xpack required some level of effort to unlock flying).
With how the economy has crashed, I have for the first time been unable to earn enough gold to finance faster flying while leveling through sales of random transmog, pets, or old mats.
I’m okay with storm crow form, but not understanding why I am wearing the Claws of Ursoc on my wing elbow joints while in flight form.
At level 60 you get flying form for free which gives you access to flying mounts as well. At level 70 and up you do need to pay for the speed bumps, though
Its slightly more complicated then this. There is out of combat travel form speed (100% bonus speed for ground mount travel form) and in combat travel form speed (40% bonus speed). Feline swiftness and many other speed boosts do stack with in combat travel form speed, such that you can actually buff the in combat speed up to 100% with things like worgen dark flight racial + travel form + feline swiftness. But there is a hardcap on 100% bonus speed for grounded travel form that can only be increased through a few specific bonuses like pathfinder.
It really is weird, but it’s totally the animations. Because speeds are the same between travel forms and mounts, and because mounts are generally bigger, they have slower animations. It’s the same between small mounts and huge mounts - the huge mounts seem to move so much slower, but the reality is they just have slower animations on a larger graphic. This allows them to cover the same distance in the same amount of time.
It’s why I usually choose smaller mounts - the big ones seem to go slower even though they dont!
I think it’s just the way our brains are wired. Your brain expects a 40 foot tall mount to cover way more ground than a 5 foot tall mount, and in the game they compensate with slower animations.
To know how fast you’re going in any mode install the MonkeySpeed addon which will give your speed as a percentage of your base running speed. For example a 100 percent speed ground mount will show up as 200 percent. (guild and other bonuses might boost these figures.)
