okay yeah it looks nice but they literally took out all of the good ports to anywhere meaningful and gave us sub par ones not entirely sure why they couldn’t have just left the other ports where they were and then added in new ones?
Because having convenient portals made the world feel small. Without them the world feels bigger. Or at least thats the BS they’re using obfuscate the actual reason for removing them.
I don’t think they need to trash them, they should just consider adding back the portals they removed.
I thought they added a trash portal where everyone goes to dump their garbage. Question is where the port goes to.
I honestly dont know how “making the world feel bigger” is logical. I know how big Westfall is and pretty much every single zone since I have quested them or visited each one for one reason or another over the years. It doesn’t make sense. I just want it to make sense if they’re going to remove or limit something.
Since 95% or more of my time is spent in new zones now anyway I’m not understanding what this does besides annoy players.
What it does do is increase a time played metric per sub. I know they like to show this information at stockholder meetings.
“Makes the world feel bigger” is corporate talk for “slowing the game down”. There is the real reason, and then there is reason they give players.
they should compensate by giving mages a CoT portal at least
The concept is that the world feels “bigger” or “smaller” is based on the ease and speed of travel to and from various places in the world.
In the early 1900’s you had to take a ship across the Atlantic to get from Europe to the US. That generally took 5-6 days.
With the advent of air travel, now it takes 4-5 hours. The world feels much smaller now.
By removing some portals, you now have to take more time to get to certain places. This supposedly makes the world feel bigger.
What boggles my mind here is that there was talk about the original portal locations becoming cramped and not having any space for expansion.
Well, I’ve had a few good looks at the portal room in Orgrimmar, and it certainly looks to me like every little alcove is already occupied by a portal. So… where’s the room for expansion there?
Or are we planning to simply replace portals with other portals going forward?
Genuine question to devs that I know will probably never get an answer:
“What is the point of future-proofing your designs if you immediately create a design that imposes scope limitations on you?”
You picked the wrong person to reply to.
How do you know anything that goes on in their meetings? Where did this theory of “increase time played metric” come from exactly? Or is it just some silly notion that someone upset about something decided to spout off about and other players picked it up to use whenever they have a gripe?
Until there is solid proof and not just interpretations, I write that notion off as ridiculous. That’s my stance.
Blizzard doesn’t report “time played”, only how many people play per day or month…the extra couple minutes flying adds doesn’t help either of those numbers
I am here for all your portal needs. I’ll travel to you and set the portal right next to you for your ease and convenience. Just 1,000G per port; in advance of course.
That’s because you like to argue and not look at something objectively, from a business perspective, and reason it out. Their model is obviously geared at getting the most time played out of each subscriber. It’s their new metric for game success in a subscription based game. Write if off however you want, but look at the decisions they make with the game and actually think about the “why” of it.
I like the portal room a lot. I only wish they had a pop up window with info about the update so people would know they moved them. Lol
Anything that serves to increase profits with less outlay is going to be attractive to large groups of investors. I don’t need to be a fly on the wall at their meetings to be able make a reasonable surmise.
To be fair the only Portal I miss is COT. Though with Sillithus it is not too bad.
The Stormwind room looks like it was built to be expanded at least, with a couple of currently gated stairways. Don’t know about the Horde one. One of the things that were suggested on the other threads was to consoldate the “phased out” portals onto an NPC with a menu like the Honor Hold mage that supposedly teleports you to the Blasted Lands.
Yeah, I know – I suggested it. xD
The only thing I can think of is maybe adding more rooms? Sounds like that could get messy again too tho.
