Trap Glyphs

This one is for those players who miss the trap-centric playstyle of classic Survival Hunters:

Similar to what was done in Legion, this glyph would add an arming time to traps, but drastically increases their power. Additionally, it provides a new effect when armed, and allows you to use more than one trap at a time. Since traps in classic can’t be used in combat, this gives the strategic hunter a chance to create well devised ambushes.

CHEST “Armed and Dangerous”

  • Immolation: Increases the default effect of immolation trap by 300% and sends the target screaming on fire. (Damage boost and fear affect)

  • Explosive Trap: Explodes knocking multiple targets down and inflicts 150% additional damage. (Damage boost and brief stun)

  • Frost Trap: Increased radius of frost and gives a boost to Entrapment talent proc chance. Also causes friendly targets to coast across at 40% increased speed. (Provides 10% chance to root and gives 40% speed buff to friendly targets who skate across it)

  • Freezing Trap: Causes diamond ice effect, preventing anything from breaking it off the player - INCLUDING PvP trinkets this time. That never should have broken it in the first place. Last 8 seconds.

GLOVES “We Have the Technology”

Allows traps to work in combat and enables Trap Launcher. (24second cooldown on Launcher)

LEGS

Master Tactician: Creates a trap that when triggered creates a field of unstable energy that increases vulnerability to attacks for you and all team members. (10% increased chance to receive a critical hit) Armed effect would be 20% chance. Lasts 15 seconds after activation. Clever traps talent expands the radius of this effect.

The visual effect for Master Tactician would be the same as the icon itself. There’s an attack in Tazavesh that causes a field with the perfect look for this.

Side Note: The damage bonus from Clever Traps talent point should apply to Explosive Shot. God that move is weak.

I love traps.

Ive really only played a hunter in original wrath casually and I loved survival with the traps and explosive shot. good times.

might wanna try playing warlock then

Hell yes, I absolutely love traps too. It’s a shame they weren’t emphasized as time went on. Eventually, Survival became a melee spec instead of the strategist Rambo Aragorn spec it was meant to be.

PS: To Blizz devs… Rexar is a Beast Master, not a survival hunter.

Fantastic times indeed, though they did a lot of damage to Survival hunter by then. They ruined the trap procs, gave Deterrence to all hunter specs, and loads of other problems, but I did absolutely love Explosive Shot. If only our current one were so fantastic.

How do you figure? Warlocks are nothing like hunters :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I like the idea of a trap glyph, but I think most importantly let’s get the ability to trap in combat somehow…

WHY do I have to scatter → feign → trap (next phase). These are 3 unique abilities that now are just scripted and have to be casted in a row and lose their coolness

Also nerf our pets please so we can focus on more interesting playstyles.

Agreed, though it’ll probably take another glyph slot to get that along with this. The cooldown on traps is an excellent 15 seconds, so it stands to reason that we’d need to spend more than one glyph slot to truly master the art.

I can understand the pets being strong, because they’re pretty easy to take out of the fight right now, but yeah, we need more viable options for other specs and play modes. One thing they need to fix is Heart of the Lion. It’s not even fair how much better it is than any of the other options. It’s supposed to be a middle ground ability, not completely superior to dps specialist abilities.

Traps were always fun. I always wanted a grenade I could roll along the ground or even things like lightning or fire gutters, maybe some elemental style traps

Yea it is absolutely stupid how good it is, might as well delete the other chest runes

Absolutely. Thankfully we have engineering for grenades, but it’d be better if the class had them. I personally don’t enjoy leveling engineering, but I’ll probably bite the bullet and do it eventually.

I know, right. I’ve been testing the other ones to find some sort of reason to have them, but it’s slim pickings. Heart of the Lion should be the positive effect Lone Wolf because it makes up for the lack of a pet. Then they’d have room for a Trap mastery glyph.

PS: I added leg and glove trap glyphs to my initial post.
