Transmogs - my frustration

I can not be the only one semi frustrated about this.

Currently we have 3 tiers of raid set bonus transmogs.

Lfr version
Heroic version
Mythic version.

At the start of this season I completely for went lfr, at the start of the expansion I think I did lfr one time hoping for set piece. Not for the transmog, mind you, but for the actual set because my guild would raid normal & heroic.

Now once I get the heroic set pieces which means a total of 4 items to complete the set bonus with 5 total dropping from any raid, to complete the transmog set this means I need what 4 catalyst to get the cloak, belt, boots, wrist to complete the transmog set. Then I have to upgrade those items to 6/6 to receive both the heroic and mythic transmog set.

Then I have to 9 champion pieces of gear to get the transmog set for the color scheme from lfr. Again 4 of which I HAVE to get through catalyst because they don’t drop any where in the game…

In short to get all three color schemes ( excluding pvp for argument sake ) I have to either get 18 catalyst, with 18 pieces of gear to catalyze or I run lfr until I win rolls on the pieces I need from lfr. However because I already have some heroic pieces I won’t be free to roll on some of the lfr tier drops.

To someone who raids semi hardcore my catalyst have to be saved for mythic track gear to catalyze.

All of this is a mess of a system.

I purpose either one of three changes to the catalyzing system.

  1. Either add in a new vendor which will let me catalyze for transmog unlimitiedly.

Or

  1. Once you get the highest tier of gear it unlocks all previous color variations of gear below it excluding pvp gear. Though I would argue once you have the top tier pvp gear it should unlock all color variations of gear below it.

Or

  1. After the 4th catalyst is delivered through timegating then just give people like 3-4 catalyst a week through world quests or delves.

I am not really look for anything free, I play a ton of toons each week I run 8 - 10 mythic plus keys on a paladin, warlock, warrior, monk, and shaman I save all gear for the end of season which I hope to catalyze the transmog set on each character. Most of the time I only manage to get 2/3 ( heroic and mythic ) set unlock but even then I am not always able to complete those two.

This sounds fair on every level so it has my vote.

I mean at the rate they are handing out transmog during open world questing, the least they can do is this for raiding.

This makes an awful lot of sense.

Yeah, think I agree. If you have a superior difficulty piece of the same kind of gear, unlock the mogs for the pieces below it.

Unlocking the appearances is easier than previous years to be sure but I do agree.

If you unlock at a higher difficulty, what’s the harm in granting the previous tiers appearance?

I have liked the downward unlock idea for a while. Not sure if they will go for it as it pads /played metrics but it would be pretty sweet if they did it.

If you sit on the items until the next season you will be able to use the catalyst on them for free.

Four. Last I checked, Normal wasn’t deleted.

Use Veteran gear from weekly quests or whatever catch up gear we’ll get.

We can do that already with last season gear. So there’s that at least. I just focus on the higher stuff and leave the LFR stuff for next season.

People have been asking for this too.

we already have something like this for quests

you get the other reward mogs even if you cant use em

i like the suggestions of giving other colors if you ran higher content.

from blizzard sides id say it would lower the collectors drive for people to populate lfr maybe? shrug

Maybe.

I was running LFR every week in it’s entirety following the crest uncap so I could exchange upwards. Never really had to wait long for a group unless it was late on a Monday night. Heck, I’d even do a full clear on Normal for the crests for the same purpose.

It’s harmful to Blizzard’s playtime metrics.

I have a 2nd DK who’s entire purpose is to collect lfr appearances of stuff

I’d rather just have the lesser difficulty stuff unlock than continue to take gear from people who would actually use it

Yet they are giving me all the armor transmog in open world questing.

My dracthyr gets her mail piece and a cloth, a leather and a plate piece all go in my appearances (it’s weird and a little creepy for her).

This is why I don’t run LFR and just get the appearances from weekly cache gear and catch up gear.

That’s how I got full LFR and Normal last season: Siren Isle catch up gear.

i don’t agree that it’s a valid reason, but i do agree with brody that i think that’s the reason blizzard uses. and frankly the transmog from quests just isn’t as desirable in most cases— i think many more mog hunters prefer the raid tier recolors, so that’s what they’ll “willingly” spend more time

I probably should just do that, but I am both impatient and gotta work on the hero/myth stuff as well to keep my actual gear good as well

Plus the weapons/non DK plate stuff

You only need to upgrade hero items to 5/6 to get the mythic appearance. likewise lfr and normal pieces get upgraded to 5/8 to unlock the higher tier appearance.
If you’re raiding in heroic it’s not that hard to get 2 sets of vet gear, 1 upgraded to 5/8 and one not to unlock full lfr and normal appearances after the season when they don’t cost charges.

Sound logic OP.

I’ve always felt the journey to raid sets felt kinda ‘strained’. I’m one off Heroic but especially going to LFR/Normal will mean the wait for catalyst charges (or making more DKs to run through LFR).

I am at the point that given how many doors they have thrown open, they might as well just throw the doors open on everything instead of this ridiculous cherry picking.
