First off, I want to start this post with a small apology to the art team. In previous mog threads, I’ve commented multiple times on how the shoulder armor that appears to use the same colors as the dracthyr barbershop armor doesn’t actually match.
As it turns out, My taste for more subdued appearances on my dracthyr form meant I would often skip out on using the “Talons” option for hands as well as both “Breastplate” options, which often (but not always) do match with the transmog shoulders gotten from around Dragonflight. (Of course, that then begs the question of why the barbershop armor has tints of certain sections that are off from the rest of the armor, but I digress.)
I wanted to create this thread for a few reasons;
- First, because I wanted to create a fun, lighthearted thread where we can share our creative solutions to our unique barbershop/xmog issues
- Second, to possibly encourage others who have given up on mog for dracthyr to give it another try
- And lastly, because I’m vain and I seek attention and approval.
So here are my attempts at creating mogs that work in both dracthyr and visage forms, one for each color of barbershop armor. (And here’s a link to the full album, since apparently i don’t have the required trust level and it might be easier for folks to scroll through and take a look). https://imgur.com/a/rsXXoMt
Barbershop 1 - Gold, Black, and Red: “Ambassador”
This is actually the mog where I discovered that the extra breastplate and talons options help with tying the shoulders into the mog better, as far as color is concerned. It’s labeled as “Ambassador” in my mog list because of the gaudiness and the sense of self-importance the appearance exudes in both forms.
(Wouldn’t you just know that the first pic I take, I’m blinking? :p)

Barbershop 2 - Silver, Dark and Light Blue: “Gemstone”
This was one of the mogs that I built before using the breastplate and talon options, and as I was having trouble finding anything that matched the dark blue (purple?) and silver at the same time, I instead found that I could match the silver and brown of the belt with the mail shoulders out of Uldir… But I also like asymmetry, so I found something purple and glowy to pair with it, and ended up building this ‘Crystal Mage’ idea.

Barbershop 3 - Iron, Copper, and Grey: “Fiery”
This is probably the mog I struggled with the most; I scoured the entire shoulder catalog, both obtained an unobtained, in my collection tab and just couldn’t find anything that matched this odd combo of colors. I ended up stumbling across the belt first and went from there, tying the shoulders to the rest of the mog through focusing on “orange glowy.” Definitely not my favorite, but not bad considering what I had to work with.

Barbershop 4 - Bronze, Dark and Light Green: “Hunter”
While I am happy with the human mog on this one, this is by far my least favorite dracthyr mog; I just could not find anything that matched both the bronze and the green at the same time, so I ended up throwing on the “intended to match” shoulder mog and just a little bit off on both. This is my only “Armor Style 1” barbershop armor mog, and I did so mostly to just have enough different shades of green to trick the mind into hopefully thinking “eh, what’s one more.” If anyone has a good BS/Mog combo for this color choice, I’d love to see it!

Barbershop 5 - Gold, Brown, and Black: “Subdued”
In my opinion, this is my most well-executed between both dracthyr and human. It’s also the one that I’ve worn the longest, and the only reason I’m not still using it is that I crave variety from time to time. As I said near the beginning of the post, I prefer more subdued mogs (which is also what this mog is labeled as). Not much more to say on this one other than I was very happy to find shoulders that matched perfectly.

Barbershop 6 - Silver, White, and Pearl: “Bishop”
This one was deceptively complicated; I had been expecting the white Warden transmog to be an easy way to grab matching shoulders, but of course the silver on the shoulders was nowhere close to the silver on the barbershop armor. In fact, after going through the collections tab I found that there are no white shoulders in the game (imo) that work with the dracthyr armor. Using my previous backup of attempting to match the leather of the belt and bracers, I came up with this mog. It’s not the greatest, and I’m a little disappointed the “white” mog turned into the “silver, grey, and black” mog, but at least it still works in both forms.

Barbershop 7 - Iron and Black: “Infinite”
This is the mog that inspired my journey to make a mog for every barbershop color, and it’s the one where I made the realization that matching the barbershop color wasn’t necessary as long as it didn’t clash and tied the rest of the mog together.

Barbershop 8 - Greenish Silver, Light and Dark Green: “Crystal Monk”
Another green mog, this time I went with the “if you can’t match, glow” method. I don’t have too much to say about this either; it was the last one I finished, and I’d kind of burnt out by this point. I still think it looks good in both forms, but considering all the nature, fel, and just generic green armor in the game, it surprises me that I wasn’t able to find any matching shoulders for either green mog.

Barbershop 9 - Silver, Light and Dark Purple: “Mysterious”
This mog was made out of pure stubbornness - I really like that model of “dragon-head” shoulder, and since there’s a hint of purple to it, I brute-forced it to work (at least I think so) by using the belt and glowing effect of the other shoulder to tie in the greens. I also really like the chest-plate on the human model, as you might be able to tell considering this is the third time I’ve used it. I’ve labeled this one “Mysterious” because of the Medivh’s Hood transmog, and even though I don’t use it cuz I’m not a fan of purple, I do think it’s one of my better ones.

Barbershop 10 - Bronze, Red, and Black: “Duelist”
This mog took the most effort to collect all the pieces because a fair number of them come from Uldir, and the bosses were pretty stubborn about their drops. While I think the Uldir shoulder feels forced on the dracthyr model (the black matches the Even so, the human mog is probably my most favorite color scheme. This is also one of the few times I had to change from my usual barbershop selections to something slightly different to better tie the mog together– by selecting the “Tabard” option for the chestpiece instead of my usual “Traditional,” it gave a bit more black for the Uldir shoulder to match up with. I wish there were a higher-rez version of the other shoulder as well, but all the others that matched colors were a bit too large and/or gaudy to fit what I liked.

So Anyways, thank you for coming to my Dracthyr Mog TED-Talk. If you have your own mogs to share, whether it be for dracthyr form, visage form, or both, please don’t hesitate to post! I would love to see more of these!
