Transmogging rules?

So I have a few questions about the rules for transmogging gear. Lately, I’ve collected a couple things that I thought would be usable on other characters, only to be disappointed.

For example, I didn’t really care about 8.3 content so I didnt play much, but I did want the Nzoth backpack. I finally unlocked it last week, only to find out I can’t use it on alts. I’m never going to use it on the character that has it so i basicly just wasted a bunch of my time lol.

Another example: I first started playing WoW in late legion so I missed out on all those awesome sets. I ran through Antorus on a couple different dh’s this morning. The first one, which I intend to play, didn’t get anything. The second one, which I only use for mount runs, etc. got the gloves and the helm. I was excited, before I realized I still can’t transmog those items on my other demon hunter.

So what are the rules for transmog? When is stuff account wide and when is it character locked? Thanks for the help

what i learn is , the war glave of some thing i think it is azeroth

The backpack is useable on alts they just have to be 120

Try marking the backpack as favorite in your appearance tab

Also you can check on that toon if the item is moggable by checking in the appearance tab. If you can see it you can mog it with the exception of the antorus sword and scythe i believe. For some reason theyre not in the appearance tab

Were you in a group when you looted the items? If so, you need to actually equip them before they’re considered soulbound and will show in your appearances collection. It won’t show up if it’s still marked as “You may trade this” etc as it isn’t technically yours yet.

It’s probably a level restriction thing

Thanks all for the responses! I didn’t even think about needing to equip them first lmao. Just forgot cuz I haven’t played much recently. One thing was a little weird with the dh items. I equipped them on the first dh(the one that looted them in the first place), then swapped to the second dh, but I still couldn’t transmog em. I went back to the first dh, transmogged 'em on there, and then I could transmog 'em on my second dh. Maybe the system was just a bit slow, idk, but it works now. Got the backpack working too. Thanks again you guys.

What I don’t get is cloaks.

My mage has 5 pages of cloaks.
My monk has 3.

Why are some cloaks usable by some characters and others not? Would it be a level thing?

Yes, it’s a level thing. You can only access appearances from certain expansions when you cross certain level thresholds, and the restrictions apply to cloak appearances as well.

Gear from Classic (1-60) is moggable at any time
Gear from Burning Crusade/Wrath of the Lich King (60-80) is moggable at level 60 (or maybe it’s 58)
Cataclysm/Mists of Pandaria (80-90) is moggable at level 80
Warlords of Draenor (90-100) is moggable at 90
Legion (100-110) is moggable at 100
Battle for Azeroth (110-120) is moggable at 110

Once the Shadowlands pre-patch comes out, the rules are being loosened a bit. Everything from Classic-BfA will be transmoggable at level 10.

Although I did just read on wowhead that the level requirements are changing in Shadowlands. Looks like its going to be:

lvl 1-9: Vanilla
lvl 10-48: Vanilla-BFA
lvl 49+: Vanilla-Shadowlands

I’m pretty sure you have to be 110 to use the backpack transmog.
