Transmog was one of the worst features to be added to WoW...anyone agree?

I remember playing Morrowind many years ago and a old man friend of mine who was an artist that knew nothing about the computers or video games walked in. He was totally blown away and kept going on about how beautiful it was. Of course Bethesda is known for the high quality of their art work in the Elder Scrolls series.

I prefer everyone having the ability to use all of the sets that have built up over the years instead of them going down the drain, never to be seen again. Also, everyone running around with high-res mismatched outfits would make me puke, much better that they can just wear old raid sets.

And the goal of that is to
 know who to fawn over? Whose opinions to respect? Who to beg to group with, or poach for your guild?

When you’re glancing adoringly at someone decked out in BiS, will that inspection tell you whether they obtained that gear the hard way, or from “farming” a fat wallet of gold and some quick GDKP runs?

Tools like IO that measure your achievements over a longer period of time are superior to mere appearance for gauging progress. Holding back the entire game just so such an inferior measurement of epeen can stay preserved is retrograde in the extreme.

I agree. Transmog and a host of other “enhancements” borked the game.

The sword from Blackhand that matches is agility, and warriors were unable to easily obtain it for transmog (since it can’t be rolled). I had to run that place over and over, and then win a greed roll on it after failing to buy it off any rogues that got it. Worth it, though.

Indefatigable Cloak matches for the back, if not using any of the BRF ones.

Meh, it is a double edged sword sometimes. I personally enjoy getting as good a set of gear as I possibly can, and then transmogging it to look like garbage. Essentially, camouflage for world-pvp content and bgs.
Also, i just like making my characters look like homeless people.

The reason Transmog became so popular is that Blizzard really doubled down on the importance of set bonuses leading to a situation where ever single high end PVE and PVP player looked exactly the same.

What also happened is for some reason the Art team decided to sink all its effort into world design so while you have some absolutely amazing looking zones across all the expansions you have a steady stream of increasingly bad looking armor models. It’s like T6 was the last time they had someone with an art degree working on the models instead of a graphic designer.

It made sense in an era where high end gear was recognizable and rare. If you saw someone with a Might of Menethil in IF while wearing full r14 gear they were a unicorn in original Vanilla and still rare in Classic Vanilla.

By Wrath every single person will be decked out in the same models of gear and it doesn’t matter that DK#18492 and full ICC tier because they look exactly the same as every single other DK.

You still need to acquire the gear so when I see people with truly unique and interesting transmog it is a direct reflection on how much more time they have spent in the game then others.

My mage wears full S2 gladiator gear because I was a Merciless Gladiator. I’m glad years later I could go into my xmog screen and still have access to those models instead of having to keep them in my bag for 15 year.

That being said, i do still have my Tempest of Chaos in my bank 15 years later.

To be honest, I kinda agree with you.

Transmog is one of many “everyone must win” type-philosophies that has slowly made this game feel meaningless.

If everyone can look cool, what’s the point of looking cool?

Transmog is fine if you allow other people to turn off transmog so they cannot see any.

The worst thing about transmog is no longer being able to tell how geared someone is by looking at them.

Ascension WoW allows you to turn off all transmogs and I love it there but hate it in BlizzardWoW because it’s implemented without this caveat.

The concept of transmog is fine IMO, but how Blizzard specifically implemented it was yet another dumpster-fire design decision - surprise, surprise.

It’s pretty depressing getting absolutely awful-looking (& usually grossly oversized) weapon/armor upgrades that looked like they were designed by a 5 year old. Some of the best gear in the game during many phases is also among the most stupid looking. Just like in the real world, aesthetics matters to humans across so many levels - even if it varies by individual as to what they find attractive or not. So, let people be creative & tailor aesthetics to their choosing.

Most of the people who whine about others being able to customize their armor/weapon skins are the “spoon-feed-me!!!”, face-rolling types in PvP who wanted all their opponents to be clearly & conveniently tagged/labeled by specific, assembly-line gear skins, so that they can brainlessly PvP-cheese by the numbers like a 4 year old with a coloring book who fancies themselves an artist. They don’t want surprises or the extra challenge/dilemma of not clearly knowing exactly who is the biggest threat or easy-target is.

Seems like in a high-fantasy world, players customizing their magic gear (via magic - go figure) would be the most normal/natural thing in the world. It’s also the easiest way to overcome the lazy, streamlined game design coding that results in assembly-line graphic models being deployed in the first-place.

Yeah transmog was good in theory but when the players got their hands on it they ruined it like many other things.

Transmogs were pretty harmless overall.

Pandas, Blood Elves and Worgen were way worse.

We know you have a stable of max level pandas.

Not on my gear matches but they look good enough.
Retail gear seems soo off the place most of the time.

Anyway i just wish they would create better looking sets.
