In wake of the an announcement to the Final Fantasy 14 community via live letter, a change is coming to the game with resounding praise and excitement!
The Announcement? Glamour (Transmog in their game) is stripping away armor restrictions. Please note that I said armor. I will delve more into this in a moment.
I have said it, many, MANY times over the years that aesthetics are a huge, huge, HUGE deal. Role player or not, this is big.
As we make our characters, we all have an image in our mind in what we want to look like. It is how we see ourselves in Azeroth. WoW is come a long way and I know that following suit of Square, Blizzard too would hear such praise from -all- player communities of the game.
There are limitations to this being that certain classes have unique animations to that class/spec. So letting per say a rogue be able to transmog two 2 handed weapons would be a bit silly. Weapons themselves are generally not tied to a class (save for Legion stuff and the weapons the class is designed to have) but lifting only armor restrictions gives players a huge platform for their creativity as all armor types are designed to be worn on every race.
FFXIV used to have it so that healers, casters, melee, ranged physical, and tanks had their respective role have certain glamours that drop from dungeons and raids. They also had individual class sets too known as Artifact Gear. All of that is lifted. I’m- not sure about the individual class stuff but from what was explained, I think that too is lifted.
So imagine some things like having a mage wear plate items to give a real battle mage aesthetic . Or perhaps a hunter that wants to wear leather to make them look more like a ranger. The list is ENDLESS.
This announcement from Square sent shockwaves across all mediums and people are legitimately excited. Here is a well known content creator named Meoni with his thoughts on the announcement. Honestly, what he said, I couldn’t say it better myself. Thing is, you can actually hear his excitement and happiness of this change.
Just imagine if we had this in WoW. Due to animations, restrict the weapons stuff but please, I beg, let players free! This is only an aesthetic thing and has no bearing on game play but it is a HUGE deal for all of us.
