Transmog in SoD

Feels like something they could add to classic SoD that would not only support their RP community but also give people a reason to farm items that “look cool” and create a market for those items.

Can’t think of many ways it would negatively impact the game other than PvP players not being able to tell what gear an enemy player is working with and the issue of botting being made worse by giving them a reason to farm popular transmog items.

maybe RP servers only.
maybe no weapon transmogs for the purists.

Thoughts?

Sounds like a good feature for a different version of the game. Wait for Cata classic (lol)

Sounds like you don’t have a real argument against why it shouldn’t be implemented.

Personally I hate transmog. I don’t care to have a debate about the logic or reasoning for my personal preference.

As an aside: I prefer pepperoni pizza without mushrooms for illogical reasons.

No thanks.

Not without a toggle off so I don’t have to see your terrible transmog!

I’d agree to that.

Transmog has no reason not to exist.
You have to have earned the gear so it still serves as a window into “accomplishment”(vanilla raids are not difficult, at all).
Anyone who doesnt want it is dumb, stuck in some weird emotional cycle somewhere in the early 2000s and they need deep therapy.

The only argument that might work is transmog doesn’t exist because its not “Classic” enough. But I don’t think the new metamorphosis form for warlock tanking is very classic looking either or belongs in the game. All this does is end up into an argument of personal preference in the end. Ideally there would be a way to satisfy both groups of people but some people won’t ever be satisfied.

I would vote against this. Transmog destroys the uniqueness of gear. Compromise is to let people do it locally, so others don’t have to see it.

How? If anything it makes gear more unique because even if the item has bad stats it could be more valuable now due to it having an appealing look or an alternate look.

Use the search bar to find previous discussions about transmog in SoD. You can also just equip your RP set you know. Yes it affects pvp and world pvp. It can also affect pve by now requiring to inspect your random pug tank if he’s actually use good gear or not because ilvl is irrelevant and items are unique and not built on a linear system of being bad to good. Knowing weapons with chance on hit, even the engineering helmets is contentious but it’s been part of classic so people brush it off. My compromise for those who want xmog is a system I call costumes where you can create your transmog set, do a little cast button and put on your RP costume. Any time you take damage or enter combat the costume is taken off and is put back on immediately afterwards. The equipment you wear is the equipment you should use and visibly see - this disconnect is weird unless gear just doesn’t matter. Changing the actual appearance of items to another item, i.e., transmog, would not be the best way to handle this imo.

I would hope people are checking gear regardless if it looks like they have full BiS or not, you can’t see rings, neck, trinkets, or wrists on most characters anyways.

This I can see being a problem but I also argued that they could make it available to RP or PVE servers only. Or make it so weapons cannot be transmog’d

I like this idea alot.

This wouldnt satisfy me as much. Why have such a system if i cant fight properly in it as i would in bis gear, could just tinker with itemrack for the same effect

Oh no, suddenly you have to right click a portrait and click inspect. So much work.

If you’re so concerned with the aesthetic, just wear the worse statted but better looking gear?

I would speculate that a poll would have 90% against Transmog.

Uniqueness of gear? LOL

If it was not for mogs everyone would look the exact same in retail

Something that Halo: The Master Chief Collection does is have a toggle that allows you to disable cosmetics that were backported to earlier versions of the game. Basically allowing you to turn transmog off and not seeing it on other characters.

I don’t want Blizzard to read “I’m fine with transmog” from my post. I’m not. I don’t want to see transmog at all as I feel it is a slippery slope and that Blizzard would not implement it correctly. My point was to only say that if Blizzard is going to force transmog upon us, it would be better for all of us if they did it a proper way.

Again, not saying I’m fine with transmog because when you say “it is fine with X asterisk” then that asterisk has a funny way of being dropped off by Blizzard, and therefore I’m not even going to give them a chance on that I’ll just say straight up NO. But if it happened against our will, then Blizzard has a way of making it less bad for those of us who said no.

I’m all for it.

You’re going to piss off the Classic purists and Knowledge-Is-Power PvPers though…
