You should not be allowed to collect them, I agree, not on a class that cannot wear it. However, to promote the leveling of more toons and “played time” metric, they should allow us to transmog any kind of armor on any armor type, but to collect them, you will have to collect it on a toon that it belongs to, same as now. This way folks will be encouraged to level and play entire other classes in order to get transmogs for other classes. Should really be fun and help create entirely new transmog sets and looks.
As an aside, NPC’s do not follow the armor restrictions and even players, thanks to heritage armor, do not. For example a Dark Iron mage player can currently wear full plate armor and so forth.
Respectfully, that is an absolutely terrible idea. Not only is it incredibly intuitive to have classes able to transmog armor that they can’t collect. But it makes it incredibly enjoyable to get rare armor you can’t use.
Imagine a rogue got the tusks of mannoroth. Under your system they would be able to transmog them, but they would need to farm this incredibly rare piece of armor on ANOTHER character just to use it, despite already having it.
Well, I like it even if mister Deathpants doesn’t. I like anything that would make it something that is earned through making and leveling other toons and rather than just given to everyone.
Farming the armor is something that makes it earned.
Farming the armor on a specific gear type just so you can use it on every gear type is unnecessary. Imagine if you had to farm certain mounts on certain classes? How annoying would it be to get that mount on the wrong class?
Farming the armor is something that does make it earned.
Farming the armor on a specific gear type is how the game has worked forever- and I cannot even imagine how hard it would be to go back and change up everything in the past so that drops that currently only drop if one is in certain spec of a certain class all had to be wiped out and redone to drop for all classes and specs, not to mention having to go back and unlock everything on every toon that people have that have completed quests on any armor type, giving them all that, and more. THIS sounds like bug city and a lot of time and resources for the company.
If mounts were class specific then that’s perfectly ok with me and I would be good with that too, even if it unlocked on all my toons when that one class got it. It would still be a really unique fun thing to have.
With the legacy loot system, gear isn’t targeted anyway. Excluding tier pieces what armor do you think would be difficult to make drop for a different class? I get plat and cloth gear all the time while farming old content. If appearances were made cosmetic that could easily be added to my appearance collection like leather gear is now.
Well, we shall see, sir! I win whether they do it the way I like OR your way, as long as I can transmog everything I have collected regardless of armor type, I’m a happy troll. Of course, it’s possible they will never change it, I suppose and we both get to be disappointed. Oh well.
I don’t have time to read everything here, but I’ll put in my 2 cents (which might be backing someone else up, or be first time mentioned–I don’t know).
Remove restrictions on holiday and other event items. I want to wear my bronze sunglasses all year long.
Fury warrior ability to mog their titan grip two handers to one handed weapons would be a good start! also id love to be able to transmog some of my plate down to some mail armors, although i know thats not entirely fair to the other classes.
Give the option for one handers to be sheathed at the side or on the back. Personally I hate how weapons clip and look so dorky when dangling at our sides. I’d love to be able to make each sword or axe or whatever sheath across my back.
Like, Felsteel Longblade, good. Misery’s End, bad. Dragonscale Encrusted Longblade, good. King’s Defender, despite being amazing, is bad cause of the dorky way it dangles at your side. Blade of Savagery, Talon of Azshara, Nightmare Blade, Maladath Runed Blade of the Black Flight, Greatsword of Horrid Dreams, Chromatically Tempered Sword, etc… All those would be amazing to have the ability to be sheathed across our backs.
I don’t think this would be overly hard either, as Monk’s already sheath everything across their backs by default. Why can’t we all have that option?
I think it would just require a toggle to change the anchor point, and since those anchor points already exist for monk weapons it really shouldn’t be too hard to make it a toggle.
Did up just completely ignore the several examples people gave you purely out of convenience? And it’s news to me that the DH class identity is to wear a silly hat, lile I said, but you conveniently ignored that too.
Luckily Blizzard doesn’t listen to people like you. Nor does anyone else, considering we are getting more and more mog options and you’ll have to deal with it.
Something else I just thought of is making more toys have infinite duration and no cool down, like Black Ice and the Jolly Roger is now. Stuff like the Blazing wings would give players a lot more freedom to accessorize their outfits.
Honestly, I am always chomping at the bit for them to loosen transmog restrictions of any kind and/or add more cosmetic pieces of armor to the game. The time played metric we all like to throw around here in GD? Mine would personally increase exponentially if I could farm up more transmog during content droughts.
One of the biggest restrictions that really grinds my gears is Holiday Transmog. I don’t even feel like participating in holiday events anymore because what’s the point? I put in the time, I earn these cool appearances, and I can only wear them for a very short window each year. It really feels like, dare I say it, a slap in the face.
I already have to put up with silly toy restrictions (looking at you, Blazing Wings and your nonsensical level 85 requirement) hampering my fun. Why do I have to put up with not being restricted to only using rewards I earned ONCE every year?
Always wished we had an option to hide weapons, especially staffs and they only come out during combat or for casters they don’t need to come out at all. I’ve always hated the staff look, I always try to get a 1h/offhand asap to replace it.
