Transfer or start over?

Just curious which option you would go with and why.

My server and guild are dead, so I’ve been considering moving to a high-pop server for DF. The problem is, I’m not sure if I want to pay to transfer.

I have a couple alts (level 34-36) parked on Sargeras and Area 52 (in case I want to switch factions as well), so hitting 60 will be extremely fast after maintenance today.

I’m hesitant to re-roll, since this character has so many items that are no longer in the game or require A LOT of time to get again.

So, what would you do?

#1 You can use gold to pay for the transfer.
#2 You could also keep your main on that realm so you don’t lose your items, and just level up your alts on the new realm.

I’d do #2.

Edit: I actually just paid for the transfer when they were on sale, but if money is an issue, I’d go #2.

What items if I may ask? Most stuff is account wide now.

Depends on how many toons you have. Blizzard will probably have a Holiday Sale where they will discount the multiple account transfers pretty nicely. That is what I did during the Summer sale.

I like leveling so, start over. Plus you don’t have to pay. Easy choice.

Or you could use gold for the WoW token but you do you.

Of the top of my head:

  • Arcanite Ripper
  • T0.5 quest items (to summon special bosses)
  • A couple BS recipes that were removed from the game
  • Maxed-out fishing artifact
  • Fishing raft from MoP
  • The ring that teleports you to Boralus

Honestly, it’s mostly the ring and fishing artifact that make me hesitant to re-roll.

Pay for your main to transfer.
Make new alts

I would transfer. Especially if I was planning on sticking with my main. I know you don’t want to pay but the cost isn’t all that much if you only are going to transfer 1 toon and you don’t normally transfer.

Or maybe start over and see what the server is like first. Spend a few hours to level and see if it may be a server worth transferring to.

I would create new to check out the server, see if I can find a guild (if that interested me first).

Once I found a new ‘home’ I was happy with, transfer over the toon, if I still wanted to do so.

Unless you have personal attachment to a character at the moment it’s trivial to level a new one.

Biggest reason I pay for transfers is because my druid and warrior are from '04.

This is kind of what I was working on. I have a level 60 Shaman on Sargeras and a level 38 Shaman on Area 52 (my Pally will be my main, but I know I’ll also be playing an Ele Shaman in DF).

Just haven’t settled on which server to go with and if I transfer or re-roll my Paladin.

Id start over. Its more fun that way.

Start over but don’t make the same mistake I did, I have 50 toons and I’ve restarted 4 times on different servers before finding the one I’ll be at till the end now, and so all my OG mage tower characters sit on a dead server I don’t play which means I can’t unlock mage tower alternative colors unless I transfer and play those specific characters. So outside of a situation like I just described I’d just fresh start over because it’s super easy now that nothing is going to be relevant from SL anyways as all the gear is about to be replaced.

Your main isn’t going anywhere.

You won’t lose your stuff unless you delete it.

Make a new toon on high pop server, if you like it then maybe bring your “main” over to your new home so you can have the things you cherish.

Then you have time to save or wait for Blizz services sale, if that’s still a thing.

Good luck.

Wait for the sale and buy transfer.

I’d personally transfer my max level toons if I saw no upside to staying on the server. Or at least my main and primary alts. Rerolling for me is a direction I’d take if I wanted to branch out to another server, but otherwise was okay with my existing server.

wait for black friday/christmas hope that there’s some discount on transfers?

I always start over because it’s easy and it’s free. Plus it’s sort of fun :star_struck:

Thanks for the replies, while I’m still torn on what to do about my Paladin, I think I’ll get my Horde Shaman to 60 and get a better feel for Sargeras and Area 52.

Step 1: Pick a new home (and hopefully a new guild).

Step 2: Paladin???

Step 3: Enjoy playing DF on my Paladin and Shaman.

I have a weird connection to this toon. He is the first toon I have ever created way back in lat vanilla. He has undergone a number of race changes and faction changes over the years. I have spent far more money on him than what I really care to admit. Leveling a toon is super easy now but you just give up the history you have with your toon. So for me its always pay and transfer. lol
