Hey all,
Just have a quick question here. I came back to SL after a 6 year break from wow. Played since classic and really started getting into raiding in WOTLK the only made it to the first patch in CAT and MOP before not playing through the rest of those expansions. One thing I’ve noticed with restro which is what I main, is that to me Tranquility doesn’t seem to be that valuable as it once was. Only time I’m really using it is in Mythic+ at the very end of boss fights just to top the group off before continuing. With the 8 sec cast time and the majority of these fight mechanics involve moving, to me it’s not a spell I look to for anything.
For those of you who have played through all expansions and seen changes that have been made to the class, is it just me or was something done to this spell in the last 6 years or so. Also where does this fit into your play style.
Any info is appreciated!!
Hi there and welcome back friend
This season and expansion in general seem to be tricky with mythic+. The dungeons have a very cataclysm feel to them - so lots of unforgiving mechanics that require movement like you already mentioned.
That being said - tranq has its uses - but remains one of the spells I use in niche situations I guess. My “big” healing spell for heavy damage is going to be the soul of the forest empowered wild growth - with the unstoppable growth conduit (which is fairly easy to find) - it feels a lot stronger than tranq with less the risk. You also cast it much more often
Raiding I will probably do a little bit later in the season - as from my previous experience in competetive raiding, tranq seems to serve a much more impactful purpose (since it’s used as a raid cooldown and usually only used with careful coordination to receive full benefit). Just can’t comment on that area of the game right now. But there are several restoration raiders that post here - they can probably give you a raider’s take on the spell.
For now though if you’re into m+ - it’s really tough to say. You’re gonna have to sneak it in when you can.
Good luck and hope that helps

Your observation is correct.
Where does it currently fit into my playstyle? Well, I keep using it as an emergency group-heal cooldown. I mean, we druids are supposed to be the masters of situational healing - that is, we need to know when damage spikes are coming to apply our HoTs, and we need to know when non-movement phases are arriving so we can channel tranquility. It’ll be a while before I understand the best times to pop heals in all 8 of the current dungeons, nevermind the raid encounters.
In the meanwhile, I am getting used to the feeling of disappointment that almost always follows activating Tranquility.

i thought of this thread today and reviewed my last few videos of m+, just recent ones from this past week’s affixes…i do use tranquility, but it was always in between hard pulls - just to keep my team topped up for the next fight in case they took a lot of damage for whatever reason the pull before. the last time i used it was during a bad bursting pull in the ardenweald area of the other side dungeon.
i mean it makes sense, cuz during content like mythic+ or PvP, channeling spells isn’t really what druids are used to doing…you never really should ever be still as a resto - you should just get your hots out then be doing something like stuns, cc, shapeshifting for dps, etc.). part of the unique dynamic to be able to heal while you’re fighting
anyway, yeah that actually was pretty useful imo…it’s not as “impactful” as raiding i guess, but i knew i was using it, i just had to think of where haha…during grievous and bursting weeks, this actually did speed things up quite a bit!
I love Tranquility but you do have to be very mindful of when to use it. Few things are more frustrating than to waste that cooldown because you have to move out of the fire or you get interrupted as soon as you start channeling it. Once you get familiar with the mechanics of each boss fight, you can start planning when to make the most of it. Oh, and I use it liberally during trash pulls too.
Like most stuff with our kit we need to know the fights inside and out because with a 7s channel you absolutely can’t mess up the timing on it. There are plenty of spots where it is quite good however typically in dungeons it’s at the bottom of the list of cooldowns. Things like SoTF wild growth, convoke and flourish are just a lot easier to utilize.
