Trading post thoughts: rotating NPCs, price reduction on Frozen items, more

Hey all, about the trading post, straight to the points:

  1. The NPCs should alternate every month, I’d suggest cycling each race (for that faction) so all gets a month. Extra points if the shop models get changed to match the aesthetic of that race. Just a thought to make the world feel more traveled, since the items change each month.

  2. Items frozen should have their price reduced by 100 for each month that passes while it’s in a frozen state (down to a minimum of 50). I just think that would be a way to allow players to get what they want, when it becomes a price point they are happy with, and still encourage frequent usage of the post because you can only freeze one item.

  3. Having seen the items being sold, their prices, and how collecting the currency all ties together now for 3 months since it came out, I would recommend increasing the amount of currency able to be received each month by 200.

  4. Kind of continuing point 3, once a player maxes their monthly currency, I think they should still be able to earn more of the currency by continuing the other objectives, but for every 200 points earned, you only get 20 of the currency (basically a 10% return). (Reason: small enough to discourage the thought it’s required, but large enough that cumulatively it would make a difference for the people that do want to grind it out).

Thoughts? Feel free to add more ideas!

I am having trouble with the freezing thing. I wanted to freeze that spiky ball weapon but the game will only freeze a cloak for me which I already bought. Even if I change the frozen thing, it is still just the cloak that is frozen every time I log in again.

  1. When viewing items to purchase, you should be able to choose in what model of race/gender combo you want to see them. I don’t want to have to switch over characters every time I want to see a particular item on the race/gender I intend to use it on.

I agree with this.

System feels odd, when you max out the month in the first 2 days, then have nothing to do till the following month. Small passive gains as you naturally keep hitting those goals would be welcome. 10 or 20 per after maxing the month sounds about right.

  1. I would like to add that there should be a gamble option. A mystery box that you can purchase every month instead of the options available, and in that box all the previous months options that were available. It would help with people that don’t want to wait a whole year cycle to see an item again, and those that skipped a month because they weren’t too in love with what was available. And those that just want to be completionist.

  2. Ensembles should not have armor type. That’s just me. The game would not break if a mage had ONE plate looking set. It would be nice.

Something that I notice checking the council thread (Trading post Tender - #15 by Lavenderhaze-blackhand) and other threads about the Trading post is that some players just want all the cosmetics each Month, however; There’s not anyone providing the point of view of new and returning players, there’s a rotation of items because the idea is that you can’t get everything and that the rotation will help with new / returning players that missed some previous months, besides that if we get every item available per Month, then Devs must desing new rewards constantly and there’s a limit of what’s being introduced there and other parts of the game.

I totally agree with lower prices for some items.

Thank you all! Interesting points that I agree with. I particularly like the mystery box, which to add my own spin is

  • set it to a constant 400 cost,
  • it can be anything that’s shown up on the post you haven’t purchased before (not just the previous month) but it’s a RNG of those items so…
  • that also would mean you can purchase it multiple times (but the cost of 400 would be a level I think as “cheap at first, but quickly become a currency sink” ) and you couldn’t simply go to wowhead to see what it is.

Neat! Thanks!

Eh, sort of? Its a stretch to say they must design new rewards when all they need to do (and have done) is recolor existing sets, or pick already existing but unused sets and push them into the game. That is like a 10 minute job at the most.

True but then we’ve the issue of too many items and you’ve to consider returning/new players…when are they going to catch up?
