So if I’m running a group member through a low level dungeon, and I loot the boss drop at item level 30, and the group member is level 15, if I trade the item to them, will the item be level 15 for them or will it remain at level 30?
As far as I know, the item level and the stats will scale down to what is appropriate for them at their level.
That’s good to hear, I think I’ll try to convince my friend to sub for a bit so we can play together. This was one of the things that he had concerns about.
The level of the item is set at drop, and doesn’t change afterwards. If you give them a level 30 item when they are 15, it will stay a level 30 item. They will be able to use it when they hit 30.

Well boo, that kinda sucks. But I guess the silver lining is if you’re leveling and questing both in the open world and in dungeons, you’ll be going through upgrades pretty quickly.
You are wrong. A higher level person looting the item can trade it to the lower level person, but the lower level person won’t be able to use it until they reach the same level. The person looting the item determines the level and thus the stats on it.

It’s one of the reason why looms are good. They break this rule.
It’s probably also why I was wrong, I have full heirlooms so I only ever need like… 1 ring, a belt, gloves? I’ve gotten items traded to me in leveling dungeons but was able to equip them. But I don’t check everyones levels when I get into a dungeon.
It is, for a fact, at the higher level. The looter determines item level. This is actually a good thing! It may take a few levels, but trust me, it’s much better to have a good piece at a higher level! I am max level on several of my characters and I ALWAYS give my gear to lower levels because my gear if far better and it gives them a nice boost when they hit max level! For players who are leveling their first character, or a character on a new realm this is always the best gear they can get to start off with (until token gear is released and their main character can send them pieces from the latest patch, but this is often after the midway point in any expansion).
