First time fishing in the game but I can’t seem to track fish on my minimap. Anyone know how to get his to show up? Thanks in advance.
To track fish, you need to get a specific item that will teach you to track fish. That item is the Weather-Beaten Journal

Can you get this from any fishing pool or do you have to be in a specific spot? Thanks!
Any fishing pool works. I’m not sure if some have better drop rates (it seems like they used to, but my alts all seem to get the journal pretty quickly without trying.) It can also drop from the fishing daily rewards bag.
If any of my alts don’t have it by level 20, I run them to Hillsbrad and fish the river up into the lake in Western Plaguelands.
The river has Many pools of sagefish and the lake has pools of greater sagefish so I can also get low level cooking leveled up.
The river is a safe place to fish as is at least half of the lake. I do the river, south to north, then go west at the lake until I’m opposite the river, then back down the river if necessary.
Alliance toons need to be 20 and mounted to run past the guards between Hillsbrad and Arathi highlands.

There’s a hole in the northern part of the wall between Arathi and Hillsbrad that will allow Alliance to avoid the guards near the main gate.
Do any of the fishing daily quests that reward a supply box on completion. There is a good chance you’ll get one from there after a few tries.
Yeah, I’ve gone through that hole but there’s a stealthed spider elite there that I think is at least level 20, depending upon scaling, that can be a nasty surprise.
I’ve also gotten into Hillsbrad on lower level alliance by going into Hinterlands and coming down through Aerie Peak but that usually involves some fighting against mobs that start at level 20 as well.
I find the fastest way is to just run the guards at the Arathi Highlands border.
I always go to wetlands. There’s a “River” that goes from coast and ends in a big pond. That pond has floating wreckage pools and sagefish pools. Fish both of those and you’ll get crates, in the crates will be random things including the tome.
Usually takes 15 to 60min fishing to get it

Yeah, the important thing for farming it is the number of pools/wreckage you have to fish it up in.
I don’t believe it drops in WoD or higher content, and it doesn’t drop at the DMF.
I got mine for my alliance characters by doing fishing dailies in Stormwind while I waited for BG Qs to pop. Got it after a few days…maybe around level 30ish fishing.
