I am curious on what other ret palys thoughts on the Ominous Chromatic Essence. Yesterday I was raiding and won the Ominous Chromatic Essence. I have been trying for the longest time to get this trinket because I wanted another passive trinket. OMG, I had this BM hunter who was furious that I won it and indicated it was a better trinket for him. I never encountered a situation like this before over a piece of loot.
Basically, the hunter said the Ominous trinket is not a “S” grade trinket for ret paladins. I review other sites like Icy Veins and Bloodmalelt and both rate the trinket high for ret paladins. Heck, even most of the top twenty ret paladins the Ominous Chromatic Essence.
Was I wrong to even roll on it? I would like other paladins thoughts if they use the trinket.

No, the hunter is just a pillar of salt over losing the roll.
If you need it, you need it.

Essence is currently BiS for Ret paladins provided you have all 5 buffs in your raid. Otherwise, Beacon is better.
If going for parses, Beacon is probably better than Essence.
Ominous Chromatic Essence is BiS for almost every dps + healer ingame.

Man…having flashbacks of hunters claiming Thunderfury was a hunter weapon.
I see not much has changed. Everything is made for hunters…

Essence/Anvil and Beacon are all BIS for ret, Essence with all 5 buffs combined with Anvil is the stable choice.
Beacon is very much the rng choice if you have a fight that is around the 3 minute mark and you get a crit on both uses it beats out everything else by a landslide. No crits and you would have been better off with Essence/Anvil.
If it drops and you win it its your homie, never care about what others think. And its also a great trinket for us rets

I know Beacon is good, but OMG, it gets so frustrating at times when I kept trying to cast it and at times it will get interrupted when I’m trying to avoid junk on the ground. It reminds me of Storm-Eater’s Boon lol.
I’m sure Essence is a DPS loss over Beacon, but I feel the amount of times it takes me to cast Beacon that I’m probably not using Beacon at it’s full potential. I just want to avoid the headaches and use Essence with Neltharion’s Call to Chaos or Pocket Anvil for a more seamless play.
should have told him you’ll sell it to him for 600k, that gets people to shut up really quick

It’s not unless you have very good RNG with Beacon.
Whatever you roll and win is yours, even if you only want it as a side trinket or a other piece for t mog.
Not at all. Hunters are low tier anyway so no gear needs to go to them.

We gave ours Vendorstrike!
OMG Vendorstrike…that was literally solid gold. Selling it would cover a bad night of raiding repairs.
If you’re the only one in the group/raid who has it, or anyone else is attuned to the same shrine as you, it’s pretty good, but not at it’s best.
If you have 3-4+ people with it and all on different shrines, it’s one of the best trinkets I’ve ever seen. Everyone in the secret club getting stat buffs, and everyone else gets all salty about it. Ignore the hunter, they always consider themselves to be the most worthy of everything. Back in Vanilla, they used to prevent ret paladins from rolling on the sword from Zul Gu’rub, because it had attack power on it and they wanted it as a stat stick, even though there were far better options for them.
He just didn’t want you to have it, nothing more.
Thank you for all the responses! I must say, I was upset because I had played with the same group of friends for over a year now? Raiding and doing keys and always helping out others if they needed gear or get their KSM, only to imply that I was being selfish for not giving up the trinket. I guess it took a situation like this to realize who your true friends are. Thanks again for the responses.

I would have laughed in the hunters face.
Hes just salty you won the roll if you need it you need it and he shouldnt expect you to give up something you need just because he wants it too.
As a BM Hunter I got my Essence in a weekly vault and my Paladin has one as well now. TWICE in a row now…Sucks to Suck to be that guy lmao
Itd be nice if they bothered to make 1 decent passive trinket that wasnt from the raid. And gl getting anything from a pug with 20-30 people rolling on every trinket.
Definitely you had equal right to it, hunter was being way entitled. His 30s googlesearch did not make him know what he was talking about. Maybe if he was sitting on garbage/old trinkets and you had two fine ones already he has some justification but honestly this is everyone’s bis for good reason
Imo group loot adds so much drama and perception of morality to loot, I miss personal. Not so much a problem as it is with OCE as it is with any piece of chase loot, everyone’s gonna have their own stinky opinion about who/what class deserves what item. This tier, Anvil, sark cloak/trinket, rashok heart, rashok polearm, echo sword + trinkets are all huge bicker/resentment targets. Tier at the start of the patch too. It’s a story as old as time, loot squabbles have always been here and always will be
