I’ve been reading reviews and researching AM5 boards to find something to pair with a 7800x3d (which I’m leaning towards probably building a new system around), and in a word… YIKES!!
The MSI boards are apparently plagued with slow boot times that even their newest bios update of a few days ago still haven’t really fixed, according to some.
The Gigabyte boards are said to have coil whine issues that can get pretty annoying.
Some Asus boards have people practically waving signs around warning not to buy them.
Asrock AM5 boards have some scattered haters too.
And then there’s this thing I’m seeing where ram problems are common on boards of any manufacturer where 4-stick configurations of DDR5 are used. Supposedly it’s only really a safe bet to use two sticks.
Lawd… just… LAWD!
Does anyone have an AM5 ATX board they can recommend that doesn’t have slow boot issues or other problems?
I’ve been using an MSI x670E Tomahawk with a 7800x3d for a few months, and no issues here.
For ram, I can dig up the Newegg page for the set I’m using if you want.

Sure, let me know what you got.
I was looking at the Tomahawk board. It looks nice and many recommend it. There are just so many people who’ve had the slow boot time issues with MSI boards though, so I opted not to risk it. I decided on a Gigabyte board that actually looks pretty good to me for the price. We’ll see how it goes.
ASUS boards in particular (and allegedly some MSI) were known for frying 7800X3Ds with the onboard BIOS. Everything should be patched nowadays, but ASUS was incredibly unapologetic about the situation.
I went with the ASrock X670E Steel Legend. No complaints. It was easy to flash the BIOS. The initial startup being very slow is for memory training, but the issue of it always being slow has been fixed in BIOS updates as far as I’ve read. As an extra: I’m running 6000 mhz Corsair Vengeance, and after updating the BIOS I could enable those speeds with just a simple XMP profile in the BIOS.
You could go with a cheaper board like a B650, but I specifically wanted four Gen 4 NVMe slots.

I do like ASRock boards. They are solid AF, at least in my experience. I hope I’m not jinxing myself by bragging on them!
The white camo on your steel legend is pretty unique. Did you match the whole rig up in a white color theme?
I was considering a set of CV sticks actually but ended up going with some G.Skills.
Nah. I still have my build out of a Corsair 450D Obsidian Airflow case. I care so little about my cases that I’ve used tin snips in the past to cut away enclosures for space. lol I haven’t had to do that since moving up to this case, though.
My primary concern with my case is airflow and venting.

I like that case. Pure function. I have a Corsair case too, the 4000D. I love this thing.
Yeah, I considered buying a newer one, since my old setup isn’t going to anybody (i7-8700k/GTX 1070 Ti/2400 mhz DDR), but the dimensions were all incredibly close, and the designs of the newer ones are… largely the same. They were cheaper this holiday than my case was when I bought it, though.
I’m vehemently against those tempered glass and RGB designs, since my case is strictly for convenience of usage, maintenance, management and temperature control. The new ones might be easier to work in, though; my cable management is a nightmare thanks to my AIO fan controller, and somewhat my PSU.

Yeah basically same here, couldn’t really care less about that stuff, and it made case shopping a pain as it’s actually difficult now to find cases that don’t have a glass panel. I gave up trying to find something solid that I like and grudgingly went with my present case – corsair 4000d. I admit I really love the case though, and the glass at least is dark tinted so isn’t even really that noticeable.
Sorry it took so long to reply, but here’s the set I’m using:

It is RGB, but it I picked that set due to it being the cheapest 2x16GB kit with the specific timings I was looking for (6000 MT/s, 30-36-36-76)
