Totems, what are our thoughts?

How do we feel as a whole about bringing some kind of totem slot back. Could even be the off hand slot comparable idk. (talking about spell tome off hands) I remember there was a time when we had to actually have all the elemental totem catalysts in our bags to use any of those elemental totems. And a different point where we had almost a bow slot in our gear but for a totem.

Would we like adding a 15th slot for some sort of totem based passive? Something more than stat sticks prolly right? Something like the fire ring from vault as an example. Being able to get some passive effect or ability to specialize a certain element based totem. Or even have them directly buff their health through that item. Idk. Some sort of more agency over builds and some flavor.

Also thoughts on shamans being able to, I guess, supercharge weapon/shield enchants? I am referring to the enchating ones not the imbues. But imbues give % increase to the enchanted effect? Shamans are the masters of enhancing our weapons and our friends after all. Food for thought, wanted to talk about something else besides all the doom and gloom.

Interesting.

I don’t have much to say in regards to this but I feel like the doom and gloom is because it’s the week after Christmas and everyone is playing with their new toy and our presents were lost by FedEx…

And FedEx hasn’t really returned our calls.

I get it. I’d like this forum post to not be about that though. So if we can all try to talk about something different I would really appreciate it…

I wouldnt be against it. But it would most likely be an expansion feature where everyone gets another item slot.

I would like a little Floating Idol around my character instead of an actual shield form. I hate shield and im kinda pissed they add a shield Imbue when I want to use a cool looking 2hand staff. I hope I can get 2 imbue on same weapon with a 2hands otherwise its stupid

In my opinion, totems are a product of a bygone era, they never really lived up to what they wrre supposed to be as external buffs, and with the exception of a few totems (e.g. Grounding) most should be converted into something closer to Warrior shouts than totems with an AoE and that are killable.

Would convert:
HST
HTT
Wind Rush
Earthen Wall
Poison cleansing
Stoneskin (at the bottom of class tree, forget name)

Would not convert to Shout:
Grounding
Searing
Magma
Earthbind or the lesser version
Tremor (maybe, im on the fence)
Capacitor

I think some totems are fine though some need looking at (looking at you Tranquil Air). I don’t think we’ll ever go full totem. Maybe with Totemic Hero but I’m not convinced it’ll do much other than add a bunch of spell bloat or weird passives.

I once had a thought that maybe it’s time to bring back a version of Totem Mastery from BFA.
BUT NOT AS A MAINTENANCE SPELL.
I don’t wanna have to move my totems every time the raid moves 10 meters left. What I personally like the idea of is something akin to Paladin seals but with totems and raidwide buffs. Basically a pick 4 system using Shaman’s 4 elements as buffs.

  • Fire: Offensive buffs. Crit, damage, a passive burn, etc.
  • Water: Heal-based support buffs. Mana regen, health regen, etc
  • Earth: Defensive some kind of support buff. Damage reduction, chance to reduce CC duration (probably a little OP), etc.
  • Air: Haste. Ability/AA haste (Basically WF for all), movement speed, etc.

Basically Shaman pick from a list of buffs in their spell book from a dropdown menu (like Mage Portals or Warlock Demons), one for each element. In place of casting raid buffs like AI or Fort they use the old spell animation of Totem Mastery that applies the buffs to the raid/dungeon party and then the totems fade away. Lasts 60m doesn’t persist through death just like raid buffs

I personally dont want that. Its a huge nerf to Shammy having old version of toem that way. Right now I can cast multiples time the same totems which is not possible into an aura version like you propose.

Maybe I miss-worded it. I don’t want to bring the old Vanilla restriction back on our existing totems where you can drop a Tremor and a Healing Stream but an Earthbind would delete the Tremor. I just want a set of totems whose sole job is providing 4 raid buffs when I press Totem Mastery.

But that’s just me personally. I like raid buffs and I like Shaman Totems. I would love to see all Shaman get a raid buff and I would love to see my totems more. As annoying as it was to have to reposition Totem Mastery, part of me like marking out my little corner of the boss arena

Am I the only one who enjoys tranquil air totem? Maybe it’s just because in BGs players rarely kill totems, but even in 1800-1900 MmR blitz, my tranquil air totem does serious work. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been kicked by a melee and the lockout was less than a second thanks to that totem.

Wrll youve just sold me on it. Ill give it a try. Does it help allies? I dont remember.

The main thing is that it’s all but completely useless outside of PvP. Interrupts and spell pushback just aren’t something players really have to worry about in PvE at this point in the game’s evolution, so Tranquil Air is just a trap talent for anyone not PvPing.

Then the fact that Stoneskin is virtually worthless too – because Physical damage just doesn’t exist in group PvE for anyone but the tank, and tanks are immortal – makes that entire capstone extremely lackluster.

That’s true. It is a shining example of what a PvP talent should be lol. Although we are already overloaded with good PvP talent options as is.

Good reminder, Lokka. As a non-raider, i hadnt thought of that.

Yep it helps allies.

Oh damn, ok now im definitely taking it.

It’s only a certain number of allies and I think it’s just the closest allies to the totem but you can drop it near your other healers or casters.

Ngl, I stopped playing in MoP out of spite when they removed totems (that and I hated the talent tree overhaul).
I partially understand why they were, but I feel like it removed part of shaman’s identity when they removed the 5 minute totems in favor of short totems that did nothing (and partly bringing them back for ele in legion felt like a joke since they only really buffed u).

It’s partly the reason why I’m planning on playing cata classic.

I’d actually love that. Right now, a shield serves no purpose beyond just being a stat stick. We don’t have any spell or ability that interacts with it. Being able to replace it with a Shaman-specific item that interacts with our spell kit would be amazing and give some much needed flavor.

Would be really cool if the Shield imbue (Hope it beeing just a dual imbue for 2hand weilder) is similar to DK enchantment. Like u open a UI with different buff for totems and u can pick 1 for 1h
