Totem Changes

Returning player from years past and was wondering if totems are an outdated design? I love the shaman class but in pvp I notice I am dropping totems constantly (tremor, grounding, healing stream, others I’m forgetting) instead of actually fighting. I remember an expansion a time ago where I thought we could drop multiple totems at once. Maybe I am remembering it wrong? But would love to be able to drop multiple at once. Thoughts?

I’m not sure i’d want to be forced to drop tremor and grounding totems at the same time. Totems are just spells with a world visual. Although i could absolutely see a use to dropping multiple totems for one GCD but not sure how you’d customize that

edit I would love to see more totems (make healing rain a totem) and make totemic projection baseline with a shorter cd. Its infuriating how often people don’t move for extended periods in solo shuffle but as soon as you drop that earthen wall, they disperse. It’s almost makes me feel penalized for other peoples mistakes. Oh and fix totemic projection failing like 70% of the time

they dropped passive boring totems for new impactful totems that have a shorter duration but more grand effects while it lasts.
That means that dropping multiple totems is a thing of the past.

Hahahahaha. More grand effects. What a load of bologna.

Need I say more?

No youre making an excellent argument for the old totem system

they were definitely not impactful and even with a preset of dropping 4 that was limited and cumbersome.
Streamlining dropping totems into a form of cooldowns is way more interactive and interesting than being a totem NPC

Idk what you are talking about. Grounding totem was never more impactful than pre-wod. Tremor was at its strongest when it was just a no cd maintenance buff. Windfury the same. Passive earthbind? Omg so good. Passive mana spring? Or healing stream? Or passively dispelling poisons and diseases 24/7/365?

Bring it all back plz

nah if you want to be a walking utility machine again we’re going to get hit by the hybrid tax.
Even then the impactful totems you mentioned aren’t part of the preset 4 you drop, and you can only have one type of totem per element.

You are continuing to make excellent arguments in favor of old totem design. 10/10 love it. Yes please. Ill take it.

I would argue tremor was at its strongest when it was an on-demand immediately remove fear that could be used while cc’d

And with how blizzard currently treats totems, we will then be spending 2.5% base mana up to 10% base mana on constantly placing 5 hp totems that are destroyed before our gcd is up — giving us zero time for any rotation

old totems worked because we had almost no rotation as Enhance

Idk. I think what youre describing is mop. Where you could tremor while feared… but it was still a minute cd that you could use a sketchy macro to lower to like 30s.

I still like wotlk tremor more.

In PvE, certainly.

In PvP, they’re the only core class utility mechanic that is readily killable, and I’m not sure that fact is always well-captured by their effects and cooldown. For example, I’m not sure the trickle-healing and 30s cooldown of a healing stream totem warrants the built-in weakness that it can be killed with a vaguely-aimed sneeze.
