There just simply isn’t enough to do at max level, and with all the timegateing you don’t have to put hours a day/week into the game to stay completive, which in theory seems like a good thing, but its so non time consuming I’m betting hardcore players (people who want to put in a lot of hours everyday) will just lose interest all together.
its geared more towards the casual player which I foresee totally backfiring.

Eh sorry man but like we are in the first patch… everyone on the forums acting like this is all we are getting XD. Heres the thing to counter your claims friend. PvP vendors are back with an upgrade system. That is good, Nathria was extremely hard and is still for mythic so idk how its casual. In fact I want you to explain all the casual things so I can see where you are coming from etc…

Try gearing a rerolled main, or alt, and it’s a pretty big uphill climb. When you’re only ilvl176, and fighting against 210+ each skirmish for the weekly or randoms. It keeps you busy.
I’d rather take this simple and short lists of things they want me to do versus a long list of unfun that was BFA. All subjective but getting a little bit of story each week gives something to look forward to, then do Torghast, then what ever I want to do… and that feels nice. I don’t have to worry about getting my rep grind on, or farming AP (that stuff comes so easy and in huge amounts)… I can just fish and chat, or have time to role play, or try doing higher keys. I actually feel like I have time to do what I want this xpac.
Some players are complaining about being overwhelmed with stuff to do, while others are saying that it’s not enough. That’s ultimately why there has to be some amount of content pacing.
It’s true that they have reduced the amount of grinding needed for a particular character to progress, which I see as a good thing.
Once you get a character going, with basic mythic dungeon gear and Torghast unlocked, then the time commitment needed to continue progressing is very reasonable.
But there is still a massive amount of stuff to do, especially if you want active alts and/or want to participate in a wide variety of activities.
I think the balance is pretty good, tbh.

I’m finding ways to keep myself entertained in Shadowlands with all of my alts, but I can definitely see that this isn’t going to play out well unless there’s some major changes in the first big patch.

Totally disagree! This game is geared towards the M+/raid/PVP crowd BIG TIME. The casual player that likes everything except those 3 is BORKED!

My personal thoughts on the matter the only people that are really loving the heck out of this game are those that skipped the last couple of Xpacs, maybe even one. I’m not impressed at all, same thing different name.
Meanwhile I’m trying to figure out where the dead things I’m killing go that are already dead.

Agree slightly with this, only time will tell if SL gets better. However I also can not think of a time when an xpac started terrible and got better with time, in terms of endgame content like raids and loot.
BC- great for everyone because it was the first xpac
Wrath- great all the way through
Cata- did not improve at all
MoP- straight line all the way
WoD- was this even an xpac?
Legion- up there with Wrath
BFA- just got worse
Just personal opinions
What are you playing, I’ve looked outta boredom around the interwebs and even top end players recognize that this is in a way, a raid or die expansion. How is that a ‘casual player’ experience.
Casuals, or the casuals that know they are casuals and not the ones that misconstrue the meaning are going to lessen their participation or stop all together if Blizzard doesn’t do some tweaks with rewards, plain and simple.

Exactly.
These people who are claiming “BfA was worse than SL” are those who likely took a break and came back to the game after a few big patches and found out they have to farm for Nazjatar Manapearls / HoA essences / Corrupted Mementos / Echoes to buy BIS corruptions, etc, etc.
Newsflash - you brought this upon yourselves by taking a break and returning to game later in the Xpac.

In the start of BFA, casuals had more to do with six zones that were much larger than the four we have now. They could endlessly farm world quests, which were better in BFA. The island expeditions and warfronts were also casual friendly near the start of the expansion.

We are only a month and a half into SL and the disappointment and hate is real. Lets see what it looks like in late April when all the 6 month subs and others run out and very few renew.

I agree with this statement in any situation.

Is this sarcasm, what casual has ten hours a day to grind in Choreghast and dailes?

I can’t say whether or not SL is entirely worse or not, but I CAN say from my experience the first patch is LEAGUES above BfA’s.
It annoyed me to no end that I had to spend a ton of time grinding AP just to get ACCESS to borrowed power. Covenant abilities are kinda awful and I’d want no borrowed power next time around, but they are leagues better than the garbage that Azerite Gear was at release. There’s also much more interesting zones and dungeons imo. Having 5 troll dungeons and 5 Kul Tiran dungeons was incredibly bland aesthetic wise, and none of the zones were particularly interesting to look at from my experience.
Then there’s Uldir, I absolutely hated that raid. It could be a mix of the guild I was with wasn’t particularly the best players, but the whole aesthetic of the raid had already been done before and most of the boss fights weren’t particularly engaging to me save for a few. As much as I didn’t particularly like Emerald Nightmare, it still felt like a better first raid than Uldir, and in my own opinion Nathria is better than both of those.
The main thing killing it for me at the moment is the lack of M+ gear drops. I can stomach the ilvl being slightly lower than raid (I’m not happy about it but I can stomach it) but the lack of loot drops makes it frustratingly annoying when playing with mates to gear their alts and things like that.
M+ is what gave Legion and BFA longevity for me and my mates and as it stands, Shadowlands has all but killed that for us.
When a mate asks if you want to do M+ (time spent playing with friends and worthwhile in gearing them/yourself) and your reaction is “meh”, it’s not a great feeling.
Yep I’ve already unsubbed. Only positive has been PvP Vendors. That goes w 15 year old content, not a good sign. Although I hear Classic BC is targeted for late April or early May, so they may have a backup plan for everyone who will be dropping out then.
I’ll be long gone, but I’d sub to play BC if they don’t Blizzard it up.

It is not set up for casuals. Overall it is set up to maximize MAUs regardless of player enjoyment. I have never burned out in an expansion this fast.
