Torn between being Peaceful & wanting Faction War

On one side, Dragonflight’s soft story has made me want more excitement and war.

On the other side, the impaled dead mother while the little boy tried to wake her up in Brennadam, Stormsong Valley made me sad.

Maybe every time I want more War I should re-watch All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) to get it out of my system. After watching that movie I didn’t wanna kill a Stormwind Auctioner for like 3 weeks.

EDIT 1/19/24 4:54 PM EST

I made this post prior to seeing Amidrassil. Saw it for the first time this morning; ran around and absolutely loved it.

I’m leaning towards peace right now.

There never was a faction war and never will be one.

Horde vs. Alliance just feels tired at this point storywise. There’s plenty of other enemies to go to war with, like the Void, Nerubians, and the remaining Old Gods for example.

Let me know if there is ever a war in this game.

Exactly. With every expansion having us teaming up against a common threat it was absurd to keep the faction war going.

I remember when bfa was announced a lot of people were scratching their heads at the idea because we’d all just been fighting the legion. We were more united than ever. But the absurdity of it seemed to be noticed by the characters in the game as well as by the players. Now it’s like we’ve got it out of our systems, and we can actually get on with the story.

There can never be a faction war as long as Horde and Alliance remain enemies.

All it takes is a few drums of gas and a couple of bullets.

I could write a faction war into the story in a week, it’s very easy to manipulate fictional characters. The problem is the ones who are actually writing the story wants everyone to hold hands at the river styx

I mean we already had that and these new story writers probably couldn’t do it better again.

At this point I don’t think that’s possible without giving multiple characters a lobotomy.

There are too many magical tools and avenues of communication available to world leaders for any misunderstanding or false flag to lead to open warfare.

There is just no way to make it make sense.

This is Warcraft. It hasn’t made too much sense since the LK died. They are quite comfortable with retroactive continuity - it’s very possible.

That’s a cop-out. The answer to “that wouldn’t work with the story” is not “well do it anyways lul”.

If I sing you Soft Kitty and pat your head will you stop making stupid threads for a couple days?

That’s not how retcons work lmao. A cop out would be a forced injection without prior foundation.

The beauty of Warcraft at this point is that it’s rich with foundation which means there are also several ways to go back and reinterpret established events.

It’s happened several times already in the story. Definitely nowhere close to a cop out.

Faction “war” is stale and boring. As long as there are players on both sides there can NEVER be a winner. You enjoy boring stalemates and “we hate each other but we’ll form a truce to combat the greater evil” trope that’s been happening since 2002?

Tbh I personally prefer the faction conflicts being a “backdrop” to the main story, kind of like WOTLK & Legion.

Holding hands through everything is also stale and boring. Faction conflicts can be interesting depending on the angle, the problem is the writing isn’t deep enough to facilitate the complexity of dynamic conflict

Than BFA? Unironically yes.

It brings many more players together to be able to do content. Gameplay > story.
