Torghast warlock abilities feedback

I main a resto druid, and for me I loved Torghast. The abilities are so well designed and encourage different play styles. They’re also insanely strong which is really fun! Everytime I go in I’m excited to strategize based on the rolls I get how I’m going to work everything into my rotation and its a ton of fun.

Because of this I was really excited to do my warlock thinking “what kinds of crazy abiliites does warlock get!!”

Turns out… quite disappointing actually… I feel like you guys coulda done a lot better. None of the abilities change my playstyle.

  • Pet does some more dmg. Woohoo.

  • Fear kills maw rats… what? That seems like something that sounded good on paper but doesn’t work well in practice. I 1 shot maw rats by looking at them and you want me to cast fear on all of them one at a time?

  • more crit chance on rain of fire. This just sounds like a normal ability I’d get in the real world. Like at some point in the game I’ll actually be able to achieve this when my crit is high enough… is this really the kind of thing that’s super exciting and fun for torghast?

  • 10 percent cooldown to infernal… snooze…

And don’t get me started on affliction warlock… dark glare buff? Make dark glare do something cool. Its all the same problem they’re all tuned to feel like tier gear buffs, not crazy awesome stomp fest abilities that resto druid gets.

Whoever made torghast abilities for warlock really phoned it in. They’re boring, they don’t feel impactful, and honestly I don’t feel any different or stronger I just feel like I’m slogging along in solo content.

Contrast this to Resto Druids

  • Root has a chance to tick 2k dmg every 1.8 seconds AND ITS APPLIED ON MASS ROOT. Now we’re talking. I can walk into a room and mass root and watch them all slowly die. I would never use mass root otherwise, this is a super cool ability.

There’s also a lot more I can do with that too that makes it really fun.

  • Shape shifting increases damage on certain attacks. Again encourages a playstyle, particularly catweaving. Super fun to play with

  • Leaving prowl does more dmg, also a playstyle change. Super fun to play with.

  • Heart of the wild is permanent. WHAT? How freaking awesome does it feel to get this roll?! And what does warlock get?/ 10% decrease in infernal cooldown. Seriously?

  • HoTs have a chance to apply iron bark + iron bark causes dmg to attackers. These two feel amazing, i love rolling one and hoping I get the other. Also a playstyle change.

Do you guys cross communicate when you build these abilities? I feel like Warlock designer didn’t get the memo that you’re supposed to feel really fun and OP in Torghast and instead made a bunch of tier gear abilities

I suggest going back to the drawing board and revamping some of the abilities for warlock, maybe other classes too. They’re very meh.

Absolutely 100% agree. As an afflock, the vast majority of my anima powers are useless.

The devs seem to think our pets matter and that we regularly use gateway or circle. This tells me none of the devs play a warlock at all.

I mean, that pretty much sums up warlock design for the whole expansion.

Yeah pretty much. I still don’t get why we only have UA on one target. I also don’t get how they justify the majority of our dmg coming from malefic rupture. We’re supposed to be a dot class, but our dots barely matter except to set up rupture. It’s just annoying and awful.

Xelnath was the last, and ever since he was fired, they been slowly destroying the class

I once had 5 Darkglares in one run with shortened timers as well. IT WAS AWESOME

Pretty much.

It is awesome when it happens, but other times u get pet dmg or seed of corruption buffs or circle or gateway, none of which really matter for torghast.

I feel you with mage too…

We don’t have it as bad as locks, but blizzard decided to give all elite+ mobs a CC enrage whereby they eventually become permanently immune to CC.

Well guess what, frost mage’s whole thing is kiting.

True. But holy crap is it also fun when you get demon buffs for the darkglares.

I do like SOMETIMES getting seed of corruption buffs if I’m in a group that is just pulling everything. I ain’t pressing corruption for every single enemy if that happens.

Yea but there are so few pulls where seed matters for anything other than the initial corruption application.

I found myself appreciating instant demon summon, 8-12 soul remnants with small chance to kill, frostbite wand, corruption slow, and various dmg effects, flat buffs, or procs the best. I emded up getting the most return on phantasma on malefic rupture cast. That let me get more powers and get some good ones.

I found the 1000% unending resolve useful on the last boss on layer 3 upper.

Yeah, I feel like building synergies is important. That’s one of the things that makes resto so fun. I’ll get one ability and then I’m excited for the one that synergizes with it and I’m looking forward to it.

It doesn’t seem like lock has hardly anything like that

It would honestly be better if they gave us cast while moving or instant cast on stuff…maybe give us aoe drain life, etc

The terrible powers makes layer 3 right now not fun at all even as Demo. Like half the powers use Corruption. Demo does NOT use corruption. It even has a 1.8 second cast time…for a DOT…for Demo. It’s quite disappointing.

There’s honestly zero reason why corruption isn’t instant for everyone.

Demo lock has a pretty amazing power, very fun, very powerful, but also risky. Hand of Guldan no longer costs soulshards, it instead costs 10% of your remaining hp. I had that paired up with double Tyrant summon and Implosion has increased crit chance, and it was incredible.

The final boss, I summoned my demons, spammed a few HoGs, Tyrant, spammed LOTS more HoGs, and when Tyrants expired hit Implosion. Seeing a stream of 45 of the little buggers fly at the boss was hilarious!

Havent played around with affliciton much this expac as of yet, but what I can tell you, is that Destro in toghast is SOLID

We have that with malefic rupture, but it doesn’t work as well as u would hope. You end up needing to drain life to get back up and it kind of wastes it a bit. The nature of the bosses means u need to drain at the right times and not get hit. It would be best if we could drain while moving.

I honestly didn’t even worry about my hp. I had a DK tank with me but even without him, Wrathguard makes a good boss tank, since our personal DPS is so low that we actually can’t pull threat off our pet, quite unlike Destro and Aff, and it’s even better if you score some health for pet boosts. That, and I’m naturally tanky, especially as a Necrolord with Fleshcraft and Marileth giving me yet another large shield the moment I drop below 50% hp.

It works so good with HoG because that’s our bread and butter. We want to be able to spam em, we want more and more imps. Double tyrant also feeds off of having more easy imps due to Demonic Consumption, and makes the army of imps lasts even longer.

I can totally understand why it doesn’t work with Aff malefic and whatever Destro gets from it (Probably chaos bolts). You guys don’t really get the luxury of having a pet tank for you, since it’s so easy for you to out-dps the pets threat generation. That’s the real problem there. The inherent risk of using health to cast isn’t really appealing when you also actually have to tank the mobs too

I just feel like there’s so many cool things they could have done. For destro for example:

  • Havoc will now spread to up to 4 nearby enemies.
    – Imagine seeing that and thinking “omg the chaos bolts”.

  • If a target with havoc dies, it bounces to the next target. its duration is refreshed
    – Synergizes with the first one, sounds really fun.

  • Demonic circle now absorbs souls of enemies that die within 10 yards. Every 5 souls spawns an infernal that lasts its full duration.
    – Brings usefulness to the demonic circle and sounds fun to mess around with. Playstyle changes to laying a demonic circle down before every trash pack.

  • Channel Demonfire siphons life from any active demon. If you are full health, create an absorb shield.
    – Survivability flexibility that would feel like a nice short cd to hit

Like… I dunno just think of something that sounds over powered and do that. Torghast is a sand box, let people have fun in it.
