I have this opinion that the game “ragnarok online” is better than WoW (the old version of ragnarok, not the current one) in many aspects of content.
“But ragnarok was a very grind game”
Ok, I agree, but it was an “acceptable” grind and fun in my taste.
You needed to kill things to do things.
-Want a card? kill the monster that drops it until you get one.
-Want a +10 weapon / armor? kill the monster that drops that item, get a big amount, try your luck until you get it.
(just one thing here, you could hold a +8 item, that was almost good as +10 item, that was something similar to reforging thing in wow, but you know…wow’s developer team is weird as hell)
-Need to make potions or acid for war? go collect the items, doing what? killing more monsters.
-AND the WoE…WoE was…good. Better in smaller servers but, I never saw anything like it in another game.
In the end, it was all about a more “tasty” grind.
So we had two towers in RO:
The endless tower and the thanatos tower.
I’m going to talk about the Thanatos tower because it’s more … simple.
The endless tower would be more suitable for comparison - if I remember correctly it had 100 floors (although it was said to be infinite) and each floor had a final boss.
But because it has 100 floors, I don’t think it’s fair to compare. but believe me, it was fun and each floor was great.
So let’s go to the Thanatos Tower !
The tower was just fun. For a strong group with good equipment, it was easy to a certain extent. Moving too much would kill you, but moving too slow would slow you down to a moment that you couldn’t advance.
All the monsters drops something useful and the final boss could give you a very important card … so I have the elements for comparison right here.
-The tower was SMALLER than torghast, but more fun. Torghast has 8 levels witch 6 floors inside each level, thanatos tower had 9 levels but they were big;
-You felt that you were really “climbing” something on the thanatos tower;
-The content lasted for a long time being useful today, although I no longer play because it is a dated graphic and the new class updates are bad for my taste;
-The monsters had useful items for different classes;
-The final Boss drops useful things for any generation (and a important card);
-All classes had fun inside it;
-It was not something “more of the same” - each floor had a theme.
In the end, I understand that Torghast intends to have another type of “vision” but, I think it’s amazing how Blizzard can take concepts so well explored in other games and … explore it badly.
I didn’t think torghast is bad or not fun, but I found it simple and repetitive. 8 Levels witch 6 inside levels of the same thing will kill content in no time…
